lost his last 2 grand finals, leaves clubs in terrible condition

dunno, for a new club preaching opportunity....
It’s the leaving clubs in bad positions the top brass need to be aware off.

Be smart with cap and play the long game.

Thing is I can’t see Bennet playing the long game.

They would be stupid to sign anyone but Bennett. Starting with a blank chequebook, players will sign for less to play under him and they can be competitive right away. This then will help to build their fan base.

Smart decision.

I reckon they were wooing Bellamy first.

That's probably how the Sharks entered conversations. People denying him going to the Broncos, so the Sharks must be getting him! Unbeknownst an expansion team was in the race

Maybe the Dolphins logo could be an ill-tempered seas bass with laser beams attached to their head.

Morten Bay council are talking about pulling their $10m from the bid. Appears they were told it would be called Morten Bay dolphins. Not all roses and sunshine up there. Read it in the Courier Mail now I can't get back in

From The Australian 21/10/21 (In regards to Spanner Shark Post) There is more to it, but that is the meat of it.
The Dolphins have become embroiled in a naming scandal after local leaders threatened to pull millions in funding and slammed the NRL expansion club over the snubbing of Moreton Bay.

News Corp can reveal Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery called a crisis meeting with Dolphins chiefs and accused the team of having an attitude that “stinks” after the club was named simply “The Dolphins”.

Queensland legend Petero Civoniceva and influential federal minister Peter Dutton are among a chorus of voices demanding Brisbane’s second NRL club be named the Moreton Bay Dolphins.

The Dolphins were last week awarded the NRL’s 17th licence after beating the Brisbane Jets and Firehawks bids and will enter the competition from 2023.

But in the space of a week the Dolphins have sensationally found an enemy in the council ally that provided $10 million in funding for their successful bid.

In an attempt to avoid alienating potential fans across south east Queensland and in conjunction with the NRL, the Dolphins have dropped the Redcliffe attachment from their name.

But that hasn’t gone down well with influential figures in the region, who claim they backed the bid after being told the franchise would be named the Moreton Bay Dolphins.

Flannery met with Dolphins chairman Bob Jones and group CEO Tony Murphy on Tuesday night to demand Moreton Bay be included in the team’s name.

“NRL fans have a built-in bulls**t radar and this stinks, so whoever’s pushing this needs to take a step back and remember the region they represent,” Flannery said.

“The Dolphins have been a local institution for 74 years, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to turn them into a national icon and it’s a chance we can’t afford to miss.

“Our region has the same population as Penrith and Parramatta combined and every other team in the league is associated with a specific location.

“I accept that the title Redcliffe Dolphins will be retained for the QRL, but dropping Moreton Bay from the NRL title is just a rude slap in the face to locals.

“The Moreton Bay community has rallied around The Redcliffe Dolphins’ Bid, now it’s time for them to repay that loyalty.

Maybe it is just because I am more used to all the other club location names but Moreton Bay just doesn't have a very good ring to it.

I often refer to our team as Cronulla or Sharks, if I was a fan of this new team I can't imagine ever saying Moreton Bay over Dolphins

Kinda a moot point, because they'll eventually be named Brisbane Dolphins to cash in on the Olympics.

We even tried to be the Sydney Sharks

Back when the game was 'going global'. "Imagine how many potential Alfie Langers there'd be in the population of China" etc

Quite possibly none with that exact name...

I just had a look they are world 75th in Soccer and 28th in basketball, maybe there aren't that many good teamsports players amongst them...
