Tricky hasn't done much wrong but hasn't really done that much of note either (good backing up for his try though)

His defense has not been to the standard of Hynes but that wouldn't be due to a lack of effort or shirking (Mozza 2023)

In terms of involvement Hynes has had 2-3 times as much output as Braydon in areas of kicking metres, runs & passes.

Braydon does not have any assists as of yet (because we loved highlighting this with The Chad).

It's only 2 games into a season and Hynes doesn't look to be relinquishing any control or responsibility in the halves but Tricky will still need to justify his position for the long term and this is the season he probably needs to do it as he no longer has any players in his way for the 6 jersey so can play week in week out in FG.

Will be interesting to see where he is at come mid point to back end of the season and if he is relising his potential or still struggling to find consistency and coming out of Nicho's shadow.

Coach has a role to play in having Nicho & Brayden play to his strengths

I think Tricky is doing fine and will probably get better.

I definitely wasn't having a dig at him. I just thought Sam's enthusiasm was a bit over the top based on what he's done in the first two games.

Nicho doesn't have any TAs yet either mate, he's also still the dominant half, he should be 2-3 times as involved as tricky.

Wasn't suggesting you were having a dig, I took your comment as you said, just that Sam was bit generous with the praise

My comments were just my honest assessment 2 games in which isn't a strong sample size and maybe kinda harsh but we are 2 games in and it doesn't stop us talking positively about Hynes or other players.

Tricky is doing O K. He isn't a problem and should get better as he get's into the groove of the season. There is plenty of upside to come with him I hope.

We probably need to accept that whoever is partnered alongside Hynes (outside of a Munster) is going to play second fiddle to Nicho but when Nicho is as good as he is that's not a terrible thing but I still don't think we quite have the balance just right yet.

If we are winning games and doing good things in the halves though I don't think it really matters what % of what each half is contributing as it would suggest the pairing is working well regardless.

Plenty of positive things aren't captured in the stats or even visible to a fan outside of the team and not on the field / in the sheds / training paddock.

Tricky is younger than Nicho and has less FG experience in the halves (especially 80 min experience) and Nicho is a big star of the NRL. It could take some time for Braydon to get more assertive and find the confidence to over call Nicho but as far as we know that might not even be an issue at present and coach and players are happy how the workload and contributions are being split and it's just about Braydon picking his moments to shine.

Braydon has the right attitude and demeanor for success and showed his patience and loyalty sticking around working hard and waiting for his shot.

Yeah Tricky is going fine, not exactly a fast start to the season but he's okay and rest of the team on average have been good. Hopefully he settles in a bit more quickly though.

Tricky kicked a ball about 10m short of a 40/20 and out on the full by about 3 meters.
Luckily against a team we beat easily but if he can clean that up into staying in more often and the occasional 40/20 that'll help us. He has hit a few over the years but OOTF is too punishing and needs to be avoided.

How long until the move Nicho to 5/8 and don't let him be involved as much crowd to come back?
