If we accept the six month bans we are admitting guilt. All along we have stated that no player knowingly took a banned substance yet now we are being asked to admit to now taking a banned substance by ASADA. If we do this WADA will come over the top and slap us with a longer ban. All they want are scalps. Essendon are fighting their own battle and coming out on top of ASADA. ASADA are doing a fine job of shooting themselves in the foot through their inability to follow the proper protocols they put in place. After speaking to a barrister about the EFC case, his opinion is that we should not accept any deals until after the EFC ruling.

It seems like Abbott would prefer ASADA to fail in these particular cases,

I can't see them getting much more funding right at the moment

Essendon are going down. They are going to lose big. Huge in fact. They will have the court case ruled unlawful and they will still lose. Essendon aren't just trying to win, they HAVE to win 100 nil. ASADA will be ruled to have broken the law and it isn't going to make a shred of difference. The Justice has already said he won't stop the show causes or the investigation. The liklihood of him striking out evidence is slim at best, and enough evidence to stop ASADA, close to zero.

If "we" is the players he might be right. If "we" is the CSFC, then that is entirely different.

Cutting their funding won't make any difference to the outcome. It will make the process twice as long, that is all.

It is like when the Liberals cut ABC funding. They cut everything but the "News" that reaches voters. It doesn't work. It just means kids in rural areas don't get to watch bananas in pyjamas and other programs.

It could change the way ASADA approach the situation. An example of this just may be the rumoured offers of 6 month bans.

If ASADA are shown to have acted illegally I'd say they'll be lumped with the court costs and the legal fees of both sides. Big $$

It won't make any difference. It was the Howard government that pushed to create WADA, let alone ASADA. They would have to actually dismantle ASADA to stop the process. It is inconceivable.

It is a government department. The court costs are not big dollars, just a slow down.

It doesn't matter how ASADA approach it. WADA will appeal it where upon it goes to the CAS (the court of arbitration for sport). John Coates, the former head of the IOC is the head of the CAS. He has said these deals are unacceptable. It is out of Australia's hands. Tony Abbott can play all the politics he likes, as did Kate Lundy, but it is out of control.

Think of it like this. The train of events that has been set rolling cannot be undone, in the same way Todd Carney's bubbler pic can't be removed from the internet. Tony Abbott can't stop it, or anyone else. He is just trying to curry favour.

Did you hear that they wanted to dismantle ASADA? Don't think they'll be doing that Cranky.

ASADA will be under a lot of pressure to keep their costs down though, I can guarantee you that.

Haha i dunno. Ive followed the asada investigation with interest. As a sharks fan, but also as a bewildered person with a brain.

In jan i think it was they said they concluded evidence gathering. Then onto sending out notices. Week in week out we've had second rate journos telling us their mail. Their mail has not once been right.

We wer gettin 2 year bans
1 year
6 months
A month for a lesser offence

Nothing at all

Yet the only actual info from asada we have heard was the boss on sunrise between hearing about foo fighters and pretentious food, that at that stage, no show cause notices were being sent out.

IMO if ASADA had enough evidence to show that the players or club had taken illegal substances, our boys would have already been suspended and the club fined. These "deals" for mine are ASADA still admitting that they don't have this evidence and are praying that someone be it Player, Coach, Management, Sandor Earl, freaks out and in an effort of self preservation rolls over on everyone involved.

They thought they had this in Earl, however he allegedly refused to name any players and only gave evidence on suppliers. This is why his deal was removed from the table as it stated "Must co-operate with asada in the investigation" which in this case they have declared his refusal to name other players him not fully co-operating.

One thing that's interesting to me is, If something had gone on at the club for this 11 week period, when the story initially broke. If the club and players all admitted they did something wrong, This season would have been the end of the two years bans. Brings a pretty good case in for karma eh!

I would love to know how many on here believe the club/players are completely innocent of any wrongdoing, or guilty as hell. Obviously running a poll on it is risky as any hack journo reading these pages looking for a story would jump on any negative results, but it would definitely be interesting...

I just saw on the bottom of the Sunrise screen: "Cronulla Sharks players to meet with ASADA today"

Is this actually happening?
