The Bennett/Boyd situation is kinda odd.

Yes, he's a good player, but how many good players has Bennett coached? Why is this one so special?

I guess there were gaps in the rosters of the last two teams for Boyd to slot into, but this last one is a bit forced.

Add to that the fact that Boyd hasn't been trying at Newcastle.

If you take away how much of a **** Boyd is he has a knack of being able to finish set plays - either with the last pass for the try or to score it himself. He knows what angle to run to put him on the outside shoulder of the defender and covers a lot of distance to create overlaps. He diffuses bombs well and is a good solid defender. He is also ironic as it is a great talker on the field.

He is also consistent (when getting paid on time) he never hits the brilliant highs of a Barba 2012 but he will give you Boyd all year round - as a coach knowing you have a player who delivers every game is a very useful thing to have.

He certainly can talk when he wants to. The interview he did for the Rise for Alex round was very good. Spoke really well.

Make an even bigger statement and put him in NSW Cup.

"what snake? Yeah, we only bought him as depth. It's good to know that we have a quality player to fall back on if anything happens to Val" :p

Flash back up to Val, Snake back up to Flash. I don't think he would mind :p
