Its not hard it just won't happen quickly. Need to manage it over the next couple of years. But there is plenty of cash for a couple of marquee signings and to secure youth.
In the mean time though you need depth to try and get you into decent positions on the ladder so you are attractive to sponsors and players.

We have got a good young core to build a team around for the future there is no doubt about that.

Brown is better than Stapo/Ayshford/Grothe even Jono. He was decent when he was here, but like Simmons and Best my guess is he's improving with age. I think the dogs will win the comp this year and he's thier current fullback so yes he is much better than the guys he is being compared to here.

The other thing about him is he an athlete. Six two, 95 kegs, he has good hands and can run. He is the perfect compliment to a backline squad that is in transition.

And he is a Gymea Gorilla's junior! C'mon people!

after thinking about it i wouldn't mind brown here. i keep forgetting he is only 26. He can cover wing, centre and fullback. Can be our mr fix it. Similar to what Beau done for last year.

Brown solid in defence too which is what we need as well as having some pace and descent footwork.

Any of the under 20's backs would be able to play - how good they are is the real question.

But you don't win a comp on the quality of your depth. You win a comp by having a really good top 17 and a lot of luck with injuries. If you need to rely on depth for a season you are not going to win the comp.

Manly have been so strong for so long by making their top 17 their focus. The Roosters last year won the comp by have a top 17 and not many injuries.

Most sides rely on their kids to fill injury gaps - we rely on journeymen. Our cap gets full of journey men. We need to target only top 13 squad players and develop youth.

Otherwise we will always be also rans.

 Nice summation

We should be working towards our developing young players being the first point of call for depth so that they are one and the same thing. This has the added benefit of speeding up their development when they are called up to FG to cover injuries.
I mean just a few examples we got holdsworth when we could have just went straight to Brown, we got Prior could have gone straight to Arona

Instead we bought those duds as dregs from other teams, quickly determined they were useless now the blokes who should have been called up in the first place have been making those positions their own and they will be around the squad for years to come

The internet has him Gymea gorillas, and it's always right LOL! I only noticed because my bro's played for the gorilla's in the 80's.

I think comparing Brown to Holdsworth and prior is innaccurate. If the dogs win the comp this year and brown plays fullback is he still a journeyman of no use?

Vave and Arona were bought as journeymen but are shaping up as regular starters.

Besides at the rate players seem to be avoiding signing here, Brown may be the best back we can find for next year atleast.

Robbo played for Parra in the GF in 2009. I know they didn't win, but still. There have been ordinary players in GF teams many times.

Id rather have a bloke like Brown in the team as a depth player. He might be holding down a spot, but Perret has been injured, and they said when Barba left they werent going to jump at the first FB available. Des has his eye on 2 blokes and will get 1 or the other.

If we got Brown, id hope to god it wouldnt push Holmes or Gagan out of the side. However, if Browns job was to cover to an injury to what is hopefully our 1,2 and 5 (even our 3 and 4) that being Holmes, Gordon and Gagan, then I think he is a great player you would want in the club.

Jono Wright played in a grand final.

Daniel Fitzhenrey won a comp with the Tigers and he was ordinary.

Yep, there are plenty of examples or ordinary players being in grand finals. Then you have guys like ET who never played in one (I don't count SL). Means nothing when rating a player.

You shouldn't buy players just for depth.

Totally agree he would be a very handy player to have in the squad to cover injuries.
