What carney did is fine. He was not pissing in his mouth. He pissed in a way that looks like it but so what. If i was him i would hire investigators to track down who distributed the photo then sue them. I would then sue the sharks and the NRL for terminating his contract without cause. His mate would have to take the wrap for the photo as well.

It is illegal to photo someone in a public toilet, it is illegal to distribute naked images of people without consent. Hence making Todd the victim no matter how stupid u think it was.

However it is quite obvious the NRL are calling the shots here. Its funny that they can slowly destroy this club but cant quite finish the job.... Yet.
Do we even have a legal right to sack him? The club should have taken time to consult their lawyers before acting.

??? What is so wrong with that statement? Is it not true? Is it not reasonable to assume his mum tried to give him a good upbringing?
Given his past issues is it not reasonable to confirm he has a problem? Pull your head in indeed.

The fact you cannot see what is wrong with your last few posts in this thread further proves my previous statement. Thank you.

You would hope they had already done that when his previous indescretions this year came to light. This way, when the last chance had evaporated, the board knew where they stood and were able to make it a quick process.
I've had that come up at my work, when we counsel someone or give them written warnings, our lawyers are informed of our progress every step of the way and they advise us on the consequences of terminating someone. So when the last chance has come along for a particular employee, the final blow can be nice and swift as we know what our rights are.

Supposedly he never received any written warnings.

Quoting Graham Richardson from the Paul Murray show last night;

"I support the fact that he has been sacked, he should have been, what he did was disgusting. It can't be defended, and I won't attempt to defend it. But I know something of his childhood, I know what he went through, I know the demons that will never be erased from his mind and I know how much help he needs. And so I've never joined the linching party and I won't now."

I see peoples comments on here, alot of them very judgmental. Yes he has had his chances, but as Richo says, maybe they thought he was fixed, when really he wasn't.

They start discussing it at 36:05. I think they are some of the more sensible comments to come out of the media.

I understand what you are saying, but the "final blow" as you put it has to be legally valid. This can only be checked after the incident came to light and they acted almost immediately.

From all reports Todd does not deny the photo is real. The final blow would be easy to make once that had been established.
If he had any legal paths to pursue the media would be all over it.

What we should do is ask Beau Ryan if he could mentor todd and more importantly teach him to tackle, they could both teach each other the foetal position in defence, fake a few injuries when someone big runs at them, run in and pat someone on the back when they score so the head can get on camera. Beau where are you??? Toddy needs a mentor.

Yep agree with that, but it may have been that any negative press was not going to be tolerated. If Todd hadn't put himself in that position, he'd still be with us. Unfortunately he hung around the wrong blokes and whether he was set up or not, he put himself in a position to bring the club into disrepute.

Please don't anyone think I am happy with seeing him go. It absolutely has gutted me. We have lost a player of immense talent and one that had the capability of taking us to a premiership one day.
It is unfortunate that we live in the modern world where all this new technology allows people to be under the microscope when in years gone by they wouldn't have been. But we aren't going to change that. It's gone past that now. No one is suddenly going to take the technology away. It is probably going to become more invasive.

If Todd had been sitting at home that night, having a quiet beer with a few mates, he wouldn't be in this predicament now. None of us, including me, know what other warnings were given if any but if they were, the club had to do this to show they were being serious.

I think it's tremendous to see the amount of passion on this site over this issue. It shows just how we all care about this club and where it is headed. If we didn't care, we wouldn't be on here giving our opinions. Not everyone is going to agree but that is what a forum is all about.

Totally agree. I am gutted that we have lost Todd but I can't condone his actions.

Now that I've had a few days to think this over I think I know where i stand.

On Todd Carney: his actions weren't exactly role model stuff but they weren't malicious, they harmed no one. All he achieved, really, by pissing in his own mouth was to make himself look like an idiot. But come on, the bloke was on the turps, he was just having a laugh. What sort of larrikin hasn't done stupid **** for a laugh on the turps. He wasn't on a drinking ban. It was a big nothing in my opinion.

On the club: what the **** is going on up in there? Absolute merkin patrol. Noyce needs to die in a fire. And here's why; the Cronulla Sharks are a sporting team. They are in the business of winning. Win more, get more sponsors. Simple. Brisbane have a long tradition of success and as such have no trouble wheeling out Ben Barba on the field...still got sponsors though. The Bulldogs were once gang rapin' up a storm...but they have a fairly successful history and as such still attract sponsors. When Inglis played for the Storm, he assaulted his mrs (and got away with it...wtf) but do you think they lost any sponsors? No! Because they are winners. And winners attract crowds and TV coverage and all the other media coverage....and teams that attract coverage, guess what, Noyce you ****wit, THEY ATTRACT $$$$.

To shaft a marquee player who is signed to a long term deal (ie. was meant to be a big part of the plan moving forward) without so much as an interview is ****ing moronic. He had his chances, so ****ing what. We aren't in the business of presenting a clean image to the public. It is a rugby league team. THERE WILL NEVER BE A SQUEEKY CLEAN RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM! Rugby league players grew up acting like ********s around their mates, why would they stop now that they have hundreds of thousands to go nuts with. The business relies on winning not being ****ing saints and the business will now fail until the Sharks manage to some how get winning without Carney. Good luck with that.

Noyce, you're a ****ing moron and I want to fight you.

Couldn't have said it better myself!!

All this talk about the players being a role model to children... FFS my kids would get a gob full if they looked up to a stranger as a role model. It is a parent’s responsibility to be their kids role model and if not, then there is a problem with the parent. Anyone who has to substitute a stranger as a role model for their children doesn't deserve them in the first place. Society has placed these guys up on a pedestal for the younger generation to adore and its these added pressures that unfortunately cause problems for certain players. It doesn't mean the players are idiots. It just means that they can't handle added pressures. The fact that they can't manage their drink and have dick head mates is their own responsibility.
