If Carney does happen to sign with us, are you going to accept it and start supporting him as a part of our team or are you going to be death riding him the entire time?

I can understand you have some doubts about him but surely you can see beyond your need to be 'right' in order to support a player wearing the mighty colours of black, white and blue.

i've confided in my mate Snowballs that if Carney does sign i will support him because i support anyone in a Sharks jersey. hell, i even support Poms

Cause you guys have some stupid ranking system which is out of 25 right?

Just cause you all wanna be different....

Didn't even go for one of those. I spent more time at home playing guitar hero then at school in grade 11 and 12. I had to get no-OP score to get in to uni to prove to them that I am not a fool.

I'm as vocal as anybody on the side of the fence that does not want him here. I really don't think he's worth the risk and he doesn't deserve to wear our jersey. I wouldn't put him in the same sort of 'disgrace boat' as Blake Ferguson or SBW, but I don't think he deserves our jersey.

But if the Sharks do make the mistake of signing him, yes I'll support him, do you know why? Because I support the jersey, not the individual player.

Cronulla Sharks ready to snap up Todd Carney - The Australian

Cronulla Sharks ready to snap up Todd Carney

CRONULLA is poised to sign troubled star Todd Carney on a deal heavily loaded with behavioural clauses.

It is understood Cronulla has offered Carney a two-year deal under which he will earn more than $200,000 the first season and about $500,000 for the second if he stays out of trouble.

He has a few hurdles to jump through before the deal is ratified, with NRL chief executive David Gallop keen to get assurance from the troubled player he will not bring the game into disrepute again, following misdemeanours at his former clubs, the Roosters and Canberra.

"I've spoken to (Cronulla football manager) Darren Mooney and said that if they do reach terms with him, then before it's all locked away I would want to sit down with them and understand where he's at," Gallop said.

In Carney's favour is the fact Paul Gallen has backed him. Gallen will today sign a new deal at Cronulla that should keep the inspirational Sharks captain in the Sutherland Shire for life.
Gallen has been keen to lure a marquee player to the club and help transform it into a legitimate premiership threat.

Although the Sharks have some quality halves on the books in Wade Graham and Albert Kelly, Carney showed what he was capable of when he guided the Roosters into a grand final last year, and earned a Dally M medal for the best player in the game along the way.

"Gallen knows Todd has had some issues but Gal firmly believes a move to Cronulla could work out well for both parties," a Cronulla source told the Sportal website.

"It's not every day one of the best players in the NRL is made available to you."

The Sharks have called a press conference for this morning, when it will be announced that Gallen has agreed to extend his deal for another two years, taking him from the end of the 2013 season until the end of the 2015.

By the time his contract expires, the NSW captain will be 34 and would have spent 15 seasons at the Sharks, the club where he made his NRL debut in 2001.

Meanwhile, Test forward Tony Williams has officially put pen to paper and re-signed with NRL premier Manly for a further two seasons.

Williams, who made his Kangaroos debut in Sunday's 42-6 demolition of New Zealand, shunned interest from a number of rival clubs, including Cronulla, to stay with the Sea Eagles until the end of 2013.

The news will come as a welcome relief for the Sea Eagles, who have watched the club being pulled apart since they won the club's eighth premiership by beating the Warriors earlier this month.

While young winger Will Hopoate, who will link with Parramatta, and coach Des Hasler, who joins Canterbury at the end of next year, have announced their futures lie elsewhere, Williams stayed loyal.

NRL's great player swap

IT is the chain reaction ready to turn rugby league in its head for 2012. There's Todd Carney, Robert Lui, Tim Moltzen, even Matt Orford.

Most warm to the idea of Carney joining Sharks

Most warm to the idea of Carney joining Sharks
BY MICHAEL CARAYANNIS
18 Oct, 2011 04:00 AM

FALLEN rugby league star Todd Carney has received overwhelming support from Cronulla Sharks fans as the Sutherland Shire NRL club firms as favourite to sign him up next season.
More than 100 people had responded by last night in an exclusive online poll conducted on the Leader’s website during the weekend.

The question ‘‘should Cronulla sign Todd Carney?’’ had resulted in 72 per cent of voters wanting the former Australian five-eighth at the club next season; about 27 per cent of voters were against.

It was not all positive for the Sharks:

‘‘I have followed the Sharks since 1967,’’ Nanna C. wrote.

‘‘But this will force me to leave. Not one fan wants this little scallywag. I wouldn’t let him play for us for free. You will lose a lot of fans if you do Sharkies.’’ But others strongly disagreed.

What the Sharks fans are saying:

‘‘Whoever gets him ... he is a diamond in the rough and worth every cent. Every club wants him — only a few have the salary cap to move on him. He’d go great at the Sharks though.’’

— J.C.

‘‘Nanna C. has no idea. Every Sharks fan I know wants him to play for us.’’

— Ryan G.

‘‘Carney is a skillful player who was the best in the game in 2010. We need a player like this, sure he has had his issues and I have no doubt if he is in our 2012 squad he will have certain restrictions placed on his behaviour. Welcome Todd, behave and do your best, I’m right

behind you.’’

— G.S.

‘‘I have been a Sharks fan for 40 years, I am another who wants him to play for the Sharks ... so come on over Todd. I’ll buy you a beer.’’

— Yearly pass-holder

Can't believe all the support for him. He's proven at two different clubs he's trouble and brings negative headlines, headlines we can't afford at the moment, but whatever, majority rules I suppose.....good luck to him.

We won't be in the top 8 for a number of years if we don't have him IMO

Our attack isn't good enough without him. It will be like this year and previous years , trying to smash a brick wall with our head LOL.

Plus with carney in good form i really think it would lift the whole team and could really develop Kelly and Townsends attack for years to come he could really tech them some solid attacking skills

agree, also i think if he does stuff up it is likely to be in his secound year of his contract as he will then think if he is less likely to get sacked particulary if he is playing well, by then i think townsend will be ready to replace him. he may also surprise a few people & not stuff up at all cause surely he knows he is on his last chance.

If we dont start winning soon our crowds drop further putting us under more threat

Put Carney in and i think we are a 2 trys a game better side

Its a risk but if gal wants it we should all support it
