Jesus tough crowd.

Just remember what we all thought of Nikora a season and a half ago. This will turn out the same, I guarantee you.
I reckon that’s pretty correct.

However, I think people were critical of Nikora because after he had his breakout season, he went off the boil. Teig hasn’t even had a breakout season.

Until Teig proves his worth, his contract should reflect that.

Made some errors tonight but still hoping he stays on with us and extends.
I reckon Nikora and Wilton will be a great set of backrowers for us over the next 3-5 years

I don’t rate Teig at all his hands are **** and you always know when he will drop the ball.

I’m saying this in 2-3 years he will still be one of the best backrowers.

Never been a big fan.

Don’t know what the answer is but, I’d probably put Wade back in his 12.

Tenure should count for something.

Maybe…

He does run the toughest lines in the team. Nikora is better at it at the moment but you do feel like this kid has the stuff the pull it together

Needs to work on his handling, but runs the hard lines and works hard in defense

This guy would be mad to leave. He’s playing at 70-80 percent of what he could be, he needs time and patience and a good environment which he has here. It’s a happy club. Take a pay cut and become great. Then cash out later.

Wilton is a good player, strong, talented

Just still a bit raw, hasn't had many FG seasons under his belt. It will come together for him in time and then so will the consistency week to week like Nikora

We aren't trying to extend him cause he's average. He has a good future in the game.

Remember when second rowers were dime a dozen, well seems they aren't anymore

Outside of Kennedy every player in our team has had their bad week with their hands - at least he is a threat at the line and isn't just plodding it up

Any news on whether he is gonna extend with us or not?
Bunnies were touted as suitors - but theyve got to be tight on cap space with Wighton signing
And Panthers have also been mentioned - but theyve got cap issues of their own

Yeah if anything they'd have to shed a decent player I would have thought.

I can see why people would bring up the Bunnies because of Bomber… but he could leave any time. Why would Teig want to sign long term just to be with the assistant coach?

I could see history with Bomber being a factor for fringe guys on 1-2 years deals at some point (Metcalf, Tracey, Roumanos, Casey, Pele, etc.) but it’s not like Bomber is being groomed to be the next in line, and their current guy is looking good. Why hitch yourself to the wagon of an assistant who could be working for another team in 18 months?

Could just be Morris selling the Rabbitohs to Teig as a good move for him

Could Teig be waiting to see what happens here?

Morris deserves another shot: Demetriou

South Sydney coach Jason Demetriou believes assistant John Morris has been undersold in the head-coaching debate as speculation intensifies about Anthony Griffin’s position in charge of St George Illawarra.

Before the season had started, the Dragons told Griffin he would need to apply to keep his job into next year but five consecutive losses have meant he is no certainty of seeing this one out.

St George Illawarra reportedly held informal talks with Sydney Roosters assistant Jason Ryles earlier this week and Ryles’ ex-Dragons teammates Ben Hornby and Dean Young have been floated as two other potential successors.

Hornby captained the Red V to their only premiership as a joint venture in 2010 and worked on their NRL coaching staff before joining the Rabbitohs as an assistant for the 2020 season.

Ahead of round 11, Demetriou endorsed Hornby as a strong candidate for a head-coaching job but backed Morris in as well.

“Both of them are outstanding candidates and I think would do a great job as a head coach, and probably should be in the frame for head coaching jobs more than they are,” Demetriou said.

“I’m lucky to have two really good assistants that could be head coaches in their own right. I rely on those guys a lot and they help me out a heap.”

Off contract with Souths at the end of this year, Morris was Cronulla’s head coach from 2019 until his dismissal early in the 2021 season.

On his arrival, he inherited a young Sharks roster and blooded such players as Will Kennedy, Blayke Brailey, Briton Nikora, Toby Rudolf and Ronaldo Mulitalo – all of whom have become regular first-graders in a Cronulla side that finished second on the ladder last year.

Morris took the young Sharks to the finals in both of his seasons in charge despite playing each with a $353,000 salary cap disadvantage incurred for breaches that predated his head-coaching tenure.

He was sacked in April of 2021 to make way for highly-rated Roosters assistant Craig Fitzgibbon, a move that ended Morris’ 11-year association with Cronulla and received widespread media criticism.

“The way that ended doesn’t help (his coaching chances),” Demetriou said. “But people forget he took them to finals, had a lot of changeover in the roster and some salary cap restraints.

“He did a fantastic job in tough circumstances. Even the growth he’s had since he’s been here has been outstanding.”

The Rabbitohs have beaten Melbourne, Brisbane and Penrith on their five-game winning streak to affirm their status as the form team of the league.

But the side will remain grounded heading into Saturday’s clash against the resurgent Wests Tigers.

“We break the season down into blocks and we’re starting a new block this week,” Demetriou said.

“We’re back to nil-nil and we’ve got to build it again.”

“The Tigers have had back-to-back wins and were probably unlucky not to win the two games before that as well. We know there’s a good challenge on our hands.”
