Strong carries and some good tackles but him getting stuck in the middle on our line is leaving us so exposed out on the edge

Not sure on solution as our middle defense is better but we are getting short for numbers although Talakai made a bad decision to rush up out of the line tonight leading to 1 Dogs try

Just moved into the top 10 for missed tackles in the competition with 30.

Brailey and Moyza both on 26.

Brailey and Wilton are also both top 15 in the NRL in minutes played for forwards. Moylan has also played every minute so far. Players who are on the field more will do more stuff, both good and bad.

Comparing those three to players who defend in the same position...

Wilton is 4th among all second rowers in total missed tackles, but outside the top twenty in missed tackles per 80 minutes.

Brailey is 7th among all hookers in total missed tackles, but is top 6 in the NRL in the lowest missed tackles per 80 minutes (Cook, Robson, JMK, Egan, J.Brailey).

Moylan is equal 9th among all halves in total missed tackles, but is outside the top in twenty in missed tackles per 80 minutes.

(note that I used Fox for these rather than NRL.com, because they record minutes)

Yeah all good mate. Missed tackles aren’t always a bad stat either. For example he chased the kick on the last and missed the fullback but slowed him down, so missed tackle but slowing down the fullback is a good result.

Yeah. Wilton has a few of these I reckon.

Something else I realised while looking through those stats is that Cory Paix has been a defensive beast this year. Just 3 missed tackles in almost 300 minutes of footy.

… and Haas is just not human. 470 minutes played. Hasn’t missed one yet.

Teig Wilton addresses contract situation

Off-contract at the end of the season, Teig Wilton has addressed his contract situation at the Sharks and where he intends to play in 2024.

After a solid performance against the Cowboys which saw him score his 11th career try, Wilton spoke to Zero Tackle insisting he is eager to remain a Shark for the long term.

"Yeah, that's the plan. I've just taken the backseat to my manager so we'll see how that cleans out," Wilton said to Zero Tackle.

As the Sharks have re-signed Nicho Hynes (2029), Sione Katoa (2026) William Kennedy (2025), Jesse Ramien (2026), and Siosifa Talakai (2026), Teig Wilton is the next player the club is hoping to secure.

Acknowledging he has taken the backseat, Wilton wants to stay so he can play in front of the loyal Sharks fans who he states are the "greatest strength" of the club.

"It's our greatest strength as a club. We're not the biggest area but (when the fans get down to) Shark Park and local fields...we love it," he said.

Debuting in 2020, he had a breakout year last season, playing 24 games for the Sharks including both finals games.

Continuing his good form this season, he has appeared in all eight matches, averaging 132 running metres and has made a total of 293 tackles at 90.7% efficiency.

Despite the fact that his number one priority is to win the NRL premiership, Wilton revealed that he has ambitions to play representative footy in the future.

"My main priority at the moment is to win a premiership with this club and then hopefully on the back of that, I definitely want to play rep footy," he addressed.

I think the signing of Wighton for a gazzilion dollars to play Centre has meant that the Rabbits (and Uncle JM) don’t have the coin to throw at Teig.
