The amount of injuries in the Nrl is ridiculous. I can’t remember it being this bad in the good ol days

I can't talk to the whole NRL, but I'm pretty sure the Sharks had a similar injury list in 2019. I remember people saying how bad Newtown were going at the time, and responding that Newtown was full of park footy players because all of the Newtown guys were playing for Cronulla.

2014 was also a ridiculous injury year for the Sharks. They used 37 players that year. I think something like 14 of the preferred 17 were out injured by round 5.

Latest update from Sharks Website:
Braden Hamlin-Uele – syndesmosis/ankle – round 16
Jesse Ramien – eye socket – round 14/15
Royce Hunt = knee – tbc
Sione Katoa – knee – round 12
Ronaldo Mulitalo – knee – round 13
Jackson Ferris – ankle – round 12
Siosifa Talakai – suspended – round 12

NRL.com has Katoa, Ronnie, Ferris all listed as round 11.

Personally I would probably trust the Sharks page over the NRL page. Fingers crossed though.

Can only hope. Our luck would have to change though. I remember Hannay in his post match interview last week hinted that players were still several weeks away.

Hannay said in the Round 10 press conference that Johnson would be unavailable for round 11, that Mulitalo would be "in contention", and that "the others are still a way off".

In a minor miracle, no Sharks players were charged by the MRC after Magic Round (including Townsend for his "crusher tackle")

Ronaldo Mulitalo – knee – round 11/12
Jackson Ferris – ankle – round 11/12
Siosifa Talakai – suspended – round 12
Sione Katoa – knee – round 12
Shaun Johnson - hamstring - round 12
Jesse Ramien – eye socket – round 14/15
Braden Hamlin-Uele – syndesmosis/ankle – round 16
Royce Hunt = knee – tbc
Andrew Fifita - hamstring - tbc

It's incredible isn't it. All of those players with the possible exception of Ferris, would be in our starting 17. So we have half an entire side out.
I know other teams are doing it tough but surely with our cap issues, we are doing it tougher.

Us and Roosters would have to be up there with the worst injury luck of the season. Or worst luck overall given Talakai wasn't a shoulder charge and first contact wasn't head and should have got lesser suspension.

Yep.

We started the season without three top line players, Johnson, Hunt and Talakai and they still aren't there.

Hunt isn't a top line player. Good depth, but replaceable (if the team had any cap space to do it).

hunt was on our bench last season and would be again this year

fifita also has a shoulder issue as well as hamstring

"Top line player" is a stretch though. He also sat out games last year. Wasn't in the top 17 every week.

I might be wrong Burgo but if someone is in our top 17 for the majority of the season, he's a top line player in my opinion. Anyway, no use arguing over it, it's still clear injuries haven't helped us.

you sure mate - i'll give you the option to check that again, but he debuted in round 6 and played every game until he got injured in round 19

Really? I stand corrected. I'm still not calling him a top line player though. He was a bench prop who plays 15-25 minutes, and occasionally a little more. He was also playing in a team where other forwards were missing time injured, and the team has added Wilton and Tolman since then.

Woods, Uele, Talakai, Rudolf, Graham, Nikora, Wilton, Tolman, Williams, Hunt.

That's 10 players. Even with a 4-forward bench someone misses out. With Trindall taking a bench spot two of the above miss out. Hunt for me is more in the "possibly missing out" list than the "top line player" list.

So Magoulias, Tracey and Hiroti are top line players this season then? Magoulias has played very similar minutes to Hunt.

Tracey I would, he's been excellent for us. But Magoulias and Hiroti are depth. They're only in the top 17 because of the injuries we have.
