It would be pretty ironic if they sacked Bomber for not fixing the issues left to him by the coach that comes in to replace him... who then inherits a team arguably in a much better state than where he left it
Who cares what the media are doing.. clubs got to what’s in its best interest - why the rush to re sign Morris ? Between the last two seasons there wasnt much improvement at all and the attitude of the team let alone the defence hasn’t been great.
No problem with waiting and seeing how he can or if he can improve on those core weaknesses it’s not like he will be snapped by another club can’t see the need to rush anything
Some fair points Wiz but you don’t think that the coach decision swaying in the breeze won’t affect recruiting?
Just me, but if I was a player & a club was interested in me, other than the $, the club location & existing player roster I’d be wanting to know who’s the coach.
From Fox Sports (Hooper)
"No, it’s not Groundhog Day at the Cronulla Sharks. But here we are talking about the possible return of suspended head coach Shane Flanagan. Again.
We’ve said it before and we’ll reiterate it once more, the chances of the Sharks rolling out the red carpet for the return of Flanagan as head coach in 2022 are 100/1 and drifting.
The annual push for Flanagan to have his NRL head coaching ban reduced has been in full swing this week as the coach who ended the Sharks 50-year premiership drought ramps up the charm offensive for a return to the NRL.
We’ve heard Sharks powerbroker Steve Mace has given Flanagan a both barrels spray about driving the PR campaign.
We’ve also heard Mace personally telephoned current Sharks coach John Morris to tell “Bomber” the reports are way off.
This year will mark the third season Flanagan has been banned from holding a head coaching position in the NRL.
For all the accolades he’s earned for helping the Sharks turn the premiership porch lights off, there’s an argument he’s created just as many problems.
From the peptides to the salary cap punishments, it’s not great reading.
The NRL is still in possession of a list of suspicious payments outside of the Sharks salary cap which was personally sent to Flanagan’s work email.
Some of them were from 2016 – the year the Sharks beat Melbourne in the decider – but the NRL has ruled Cronulla was “salary cap compliant” on grand final day.
Even if Flanagan does decide to go down the road of lodging the paperwork to try and have his ban reduced the best he can expect is a couple of months shaved off. Maybe.
What Flanagan does enjoy is some seriously high profile support with the likes of Prime Minister Scott Morrison, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller and media king pin Alan Jones all strongly pushing his case.
The most pressing question is which NRL club will be prepared to give him another crack?"
Show us some evidence or shut the **** up.

I get what you’re saying but I think it’s a little too early in John Morris coaching career to have that kind of clout with players where they would leave if he’s not coach... bringing new players ? Not sure he’s got that clout yet either.
I’m not for him nor am I against him I just think we had major gaps and it wasn’t pretty during the year the way we would get tore up by other teams often - 3 years is an alright amount of time to gauge on what a coach can/can’t bring

Has years of work in with a lot of our younger players before the NRL gig. Definitely think some of them could be influenced by him.
As for new players I think he more means not having a set coach could make it harder to recruit, which I would agree with. Many players would be wary of signing if they don't know who the coach will be by the time they get there.
yet we successfully recruited tolam and mcciness and extended many promising youngsters
Flanno didn't leave our team in a state of not being able to tackle

I hadn't stated that
Yes, despite the factor that may affect some people we still recruited some people (presumably one's not overly worried about it).
For example the immediate three year contract with near 50% pay rise (when his current club weren't interested in talking contract to him) and he doesn't even have to move house was probably interesting enough to McInnes he was willing to gamble on the coach situation.
There's a significantly longer list of people we didn't recruit and who knows what may or may not have got them over the line, while probably only a very small factor coaching insecurity could have made a few peoples 'cons' list.
Yes mate somehow a team that has placed 8th consecutively for 2 years who has bowed out in the first rounds of the finals for 2 years who has offered up some of the worst defence we’ve seen in the clubs recent history with a record of 10 wins and 10 losses is somehow arguably in a much better place then a 4th placed team with a record of 16 wins and 8 losses.
Good on ya
I know but the recruitment decisions made by Flanno doesn't excuse the shocking defense we have seen under bomber and his staff - that part was in the players and Morris control. actually if Flanno hadn't recruited SJ we prob don't even play finals the last 2 seasons.
money is the key factor for alot of players, now we finally have a bit in the cap we are bringing in new faces. ofcourse players want to be at a competitive club as well and if Morris hadn't managed to keep us a finals contender maybe some players see us less appealing.
you cant expect a young rookie coach to have much pull or charisma with recruitment when he hasn't had much change to get runs on the board yet or show what he is all about. but also some players might like a young fresh faced coach on their level over an older head who they might clash with. a coach like hook for example may not have successfully held onto so many of our young players like bomber has
My preference is to keep JMo but there is no need to extend him for three years imo. Two is enough.
