C'mon now bort, the boys work hard in the gym so they don't have to on game day

That explains Jack Williams!

there is an interview online i am looking for with a minute convo with sj and he said he didnt want to play 9's as he needs a big nrl season

I know the one you mean - I think he didn't say he didn't want to play, more that it wasn't a priority and he was more concerned about winning round 1 than winning the 9s.
Perhaps you can clarify if you find it

I can confirm Johnson was A+ with the fans though, heaps of photos, as I recall that is what we got him for.

Can't really call our campaign a failure when we played just a bit over half an hour of footy.

Back in the Auckland Nines, people here were calling it a Mickey Mouse comp, well this Perth Nines was a further watered down version.

At least in Auckland we got to play all the teams in our pool

Yep!
I received an email from the NRL for feedback of the nines.
I mentioned exactly that point.
No other Comp in the world has a pool of 4 teams but only has them playing 2 teams within their pool.
It was as if the NRL wanted this to be a failure of an event!

It's a real cop out for WA fans. NRL are now convinced there is no market for NRL there.

It's hard to support a comp where you have to turn up 2 days, one being a week day, and on top of that, your only guaranteed to see your team play 18mins each day.

Chances are you'd spend more time in line getting a bucket of overpriced hot chips than actually watching your team play

Does anyone else think the appeal of watching live sport on TV has peaked and is actually dying?

I used to watch quite a bit with a mix of different sport depending on what was on. Now I really only watch Cronulla games. I fill my TV time with Netflix and the other general subscription services.

I don't know if it's just a personal thing or whether it's a wider trend.

I definitely don't watch as much as I used to but I think my intake of TV in general has gone down considerably.

Outside of the NRL the ability to watch and listen to rugby league games is on the up. A lot more lower grade, junior, schoolboy games are streamed now. I love it. For me though it’s about the game - I don’t need the all the fluff, stats, replays and so-called expert commentators. I’m quite happy to watch a single camera stream commentated by a couple of unknowns on a $30 mic.

As for NRL - I love the Kayo minis and also replays of old games, and I will watch random teams play... but I have no interest in the 45 different Fox NRL shows.

Kayo makes me want to watch more. I find myself tuning in to Super League games occasionally when there's someone interesting playing, and definitely get to watch more 49ers games. being able to watch on the bus to work helps, too.

The biggest thing that turned me off NRL as a boob tube choice was the FTA commentators. I mean seriously, they are horrendous Footy Show era anachronisms, well past their use by dates and I'm glad I have an easy to access alternative. Now just need the Kayo app on the TV to make the streaming work better and I'm all in.

Bring back the good old days with the footy on the TV, with the volume OFF, and Roy and HG calling the game on the radio.

Thanks to Kayo I watch the Sharks game (which I always tried to find a way to watch before but didn't have fox) and usually another 2 games on average per weekend.
Also allowed me to watch much more of the Patriots.

I think the appeal is still there but there is just a lot more competition now.
It's easy now, after you have watched the Sharks game, to throw a series on with the missus rather than watch the next game between bulldogs and titans.
