Would he better off from a development perspective playing more game time in the reggies?

Good question. To expand it....

Would he be better off from a development perspective playing more time in reggies or playing some time in NRL?
Do we benefit by making our 2019 NRL team (arguably) worse dropping Blayke so he can develop more to make our 2020+ teams better?
Does dropping Blayke to reggies for his development aid Jayden's development by letting him go back to concentrate on 80mins? And if so is that better for us in 2019/20 or for whoever signs him in 2021?
Does dropping Blayke to reggies hurt our 2019 because Jayden isn't facing as direct competition for his spot?

Basically they are pretty bloody hard questions to answer so I'm happy to defer them to the coach. At this stage he seems to think Blayke on the bench is best.

The more I think about it, we're probably going to be so well off having our best forwards available (inc 3 on the bench) that it doesn't matter in the end.

Like, if your guaranteed selections are Fifita, Prior, Gallen, Graham, Nikora and Woods, it doesn't really matter that much who out of Uele, Williams and Capewell sit out.

No matter which way you cut it, that's a good problem to have.

Even with a forward sitting out the rest will not be getting the minutes they deserve, and that's a good thing.

I don't know, it's nice to have a bit of impact from the bench so I think it does matter who sits out, to a degree.

Uele is providing more impact than anyone atm and is a must if his form continues.

You left out Boogs, was that intentional?

I think the lower interchange basically eradicates the impact argument. I mean yeah you're gunna get impact during an interchange but it's not like you can stack your bench with impact forwards any more.

It's more like, in our structure the edge forwards are 80m. So you're talking about middle forward rotation. You've got 6 middle forwards sharing 240 minutes, ie averaging 40 minutes each. You vary how much each gets based on how effective they are. Let's say Uele can maintain for 30 minutes a performance that Fifita can achieve for 50 minutes, then you have those two guys sharing 80 minutes.

If you introduce another forward into the mix (4 forward bench) you're just taking minutes off someone else. You'd then be stretching J Brailey out to 80 minutes so that someone like Fifita does 40 and Gal and someone else with a motor. What's the point of that?

B Brailey has impact, and of a different sort as well. He'll be better against tired legs. That's how I'm leaning right now.

Uele is in my 17 either way.

I left out Boogs unintentionally!

IMO we need to choose between Capewell and B Brailey, and I would choose B Brailey unless an outside back has a dodgy leg or something. Then we have to choose between Bukuya and Williams, and I'd struggle with this one because Williams is probably better in a lot of ways but Bukuya has the experience and I'd trust him to make a game winning tackle or some other super important play over Williams. Uele is an auto-pick for me.

It is very difficult. Assuming all forwards are available the bench comes from:

Woods
Williams
Bukuya
Uele
Capewell
Blayke

Definitely a headache for Bomber, but it's a ****ing good headache to have.

Capewell is good 2nd row/backline coverage, where BBrailey is good for Hooker/2nd row/halves coverage.

Doesn't answer the question really, does it..!

Nope. No way we can have both Capewell and Blayke on the bench at full strength.

I'm not saying that at all though. I'm saying each player covers the team from the bench in a different way. Which do you choose? Is there a right answer?

Yeah I know mate.

It is tough. Personally I'd go without Blayke.

If capes could start channeling and replicating Corey Oates could help 2 things. 1. Finding a great kick it at me then barge over winger and 2. Gets capes in our 17 has his faults but way too good to be 18th man.
All this is based on at some stage getting our top 17 available. Must admit when SJ and Woods did themselves a decent injury I thought our season may have spiralled downwards, wrapped in everyone’s efforts thus far..

I like the way he pretends he's going to feed the ball to the left and then switches to the right and vice versa.

Seems to be a good enough actor to keep the opposition a bit confused.

I was worried about his defence playing 80 against a big Canberra pack, but his tackle technique was fantastic.

We all have high expectations on him, and they're probably unreasonable given his age and experience. But while he's not going to dominate just yet, I have no doubt that he will.
