Yep!

If Val turns down that contract we will be all over Benny like Snowman on a 6’5 winger.

The timing of Benny’s announcement isn’t to our advantage (unless Flanno already knows what Val is doing).

It actually really works to our advantage.

If Val says he wants out we are in the box seat to get a world class fullback in Barba

There is then another fullback (better than val and probably cheaper) on the market. North qld boy himself, cowboys might say **** it we’ll take him. Val will re-sign with us.

I was hoping that it would come out in a few weeks time (once Val has already made his decision).
If we know Val is definitely staying, then we don't need to make a play for Benny. If he is definitely going, then we make a big play for him.
At the moment, we are caught between a rock and a hard place as we don't know if we should go after Benny or not.

Unless as I said before, Flanno already knows what's happening anyway.

We offer Val plenty of $$ but with a deadline of say end of August , no commitment by then by him we are then all in on barba. I haven’t read anywhere that benny’s Super league club are letting him go, do we know that will happen.

Pretty sure it has been confirmed now.

Pretty canny of Flanno to rule out Barba while negotiations are underway.

Val would only stay to play fullback. That's way more likely without Barba here so Flanno says no chance to Barba publicly to reassure Val and get him over the line.

5 year 6 million deal is being thrown around

$1.2m Can handle that. Its pretty much the going rate for top flught players. Fullback is becoming the most important attacking position in a team. Val is only gunna get better each year.

Building a foundation for the next 5 years- I like it. We could probably sign Barba for $600-700k a year and in the short term ( 2 years) he would represent better value but more risk. And with Barba is not a corner stone type saying. Bring on Val at 1.2m !

I think we are looking at this wrong in terms of timing, Benny probably knows exactly what’s going on with Val and thats going to hinder a lot on what happens to his NRL return. He’s putting pressure on Val to make a decision because if he stays with the sharks Barba will try and go to NQL instead of them going after Munster. On the flip side, if Val doesn’t resign then he will look to come back to the Sharks. If Barba waits any longer to seek a release he will risk not having anywhere to go if sharks and NQL sort out their FBs soon. Well, no where decent, he will always have **** sides to go to lol..
