The last contract of his I recall (cant remember the exact year) Flanno put him on a long term deal at a bargain price, not sure if he got upgraded since then (post 2016 perhaps) but I think it was somewhere in the $350k a year over 4 or 5 years sorta deal

yea they play in some lower tier English division - wouldn't think they would be flying back to Toronto every week

Barba has maybe a couple good few years left in him before that zip starts to fade, Holmes has an entire career ahead of him with the best yet to come

Bringing barba back isn't enough to give us another premiership (unless Moylan finds a way to play out of his skin) , not a great trade

Holmes leaving is assumptions and speculation - if we can have both holmes AND Barba in our team again then **** yes i'm all for that

You cant think too far into the future though. Holmes has a lot longer in the game left than barba, but who says we can hold onto him for his whole career? The nrl is getting to the point where rosters are only worth planning for a 2 year block cos players or clubs will move to make transfers at the drop of a hat.

Id take Barba now, knowing even if we didnt get him Holmes will eventually pack up and leave anyway

Not buying into this story. But im willing to entertain the idea haha.

Just IF we were faced with the scenario of "do we want Barba at the expense of Holmes". I think theres grounds for a yes. I mean the major argument is we lose longevity.

BUT, Barba is only 28. You could say hes similar to Billy Slater and hes lasted till 34. So you at leats have 3 great years at fullback from Barba. In that time Katoa comes in and with his upside we may not lose much quality on the right wing plus he wouldnt be an expensive asset on a wing.

After Barba does retire, if we dont have a gun replacement on the market we have a young 26 year old Moylan ready, and Flanno jnr who could have broken through by this stage.

All this on top of the fact that Val is offcontract next year anyway and may want a sea change anyway!

mate, this article is solely written on brent read talking to mark geyer on triple m last night

there is no substance what so ever to it

he is about to do the double with st helens, i highly doubt they release him this year

Fair Call Everyone ∆∆∆
I suppose I feel Val might leave us for greener pastures in the near future anyway ( interests from Tigers Cowboys would seem likely ) and contracts mean stuff all these days .
So if we got Barba somehow this year and had Katoa at right wing , I think we'd be an even better chance to win the comp .
Just my 2 cents

Hyperthetical, if, given the chance, for the same money, who would you choose to bring in to our existing squad to best give us the chance to win the comp

A) Barba
B) Tapau

Barba, we have forward depth, not back depth.

We seriously have to move on from Barba.

Holmes is the future and if we can keep him happy and wanting to stay you back him 10/10 times over an ageing barba

How far into the future do u wanna look though? He is great and will be great but even with a contract theres no point banking on anyone being th future.

If that is the case it would be nice to get some transparency from Holmes so the club can plan ahead.

Really don't want another Leutele situataion and lose all our young centres only for him to take off and leave us with nothing.

Everyone talks up Holmes wanting to go back to North Qld.

But do hip young 20-somethings with heaps of cash really want to live in Townsville?

He's been down here for an age as well.

Yeah so much crap going around, probably all nonsense.

Besides, if he leaves I'll probably cry.

From memory they ether scored or gave the assists for nearly half of the team's tries that year.

Why all this talk about Barba ageing he's only 28 ? his awareness of the game just gets better and better , he has at least another 4 years at the top of his game

You couldnt name a better fullback ..

How do you know this is not already happening?

Just because it’s not transparent to us fans doesn’t mean it’s not transparent to the club.
