I agree, PLEASE Hannay was playing Queensland cup only a few weeks ago.

He is asking for 220k????????????????????????????????

You have to be kidding, that is almost as much as Phil Bailey was on??? Twice Covell???

I would honestly rather perservere with Pomeroy and other local juniors then waste it on that Spasa!!!!!!!!

I agree, hannay is good but not that good, give pomeroy the chance to shine and he will do as good a job as hannay could. Plus Hannay has a screwed shoulder that always seems to get injured, not worth the risk when your paying that much for him.

Jeepers, I agree he's a mong but I do think we need him next year. All this talk about giving the juniors a go - nice sentiment but exactly who is up to first grade standard? Premier league and jersey flegg cop a flogging every second week and there's not standout centres.

They still need to give these young players a go, don't you think Wayne Bennett has blooded a lot of young talent over the years and perservered???

I am sure "baby broncos" had to learn how to play and be perservered with? And would of made plenty of mistakes along the way.

hannay is not worth anything over $150 000, buy some new backs or forwards...go all in on nate myles or another stand out player!

Manly will not release Matai because they want him for depth should Lyons or Bell gets injured. Regardless of how unhappy he is.

Exactly right the sharks management are ****, Greg Peirce neglects to register Bott and gets the club fined, Spastic!!!!!!!!!!!

They offered Hannay 150k he wanted more, so f**k him. He is experience is in Queensland cup not NRL.

yea i dont really want to see hannay signed, just a waste of money although our centre department is kinda bare. Do u think that our likely centre pairing at this point will be fraser anderson and leon bott with the rest of the backline remaining unchanged.. might just work.

Hannay signs with Sharks

DEPARTING North Queensland centre Josh Hannay believes his best football may be in front of him when he takes up a new two-year deal with Cronulla from next season.

Hannay signs with Sharks
25-Jul-2006

DEPARTING North Queensland centre Josh Hannay believes his best football may be in front of him when he takes up a new two-year deal with Cronulla from next season.

The 26-year-old was already set to end his nine-year career with the Cowboys at the end of this season after the club informed him he would not be re-signed a fortnight ago.

However, he yesterday sealed his future - knocking back interest from Penrith and Newcastle to join the Sharks.

Hannay, who played his second match for Queensland this year, has been back to his best form in recent weeks after a slow start to the year, including a six-week stint in the Queensland Cup following off-season shoulder surgery.

He said he always knew he would take time to return to form after the operation but viewed the end of this season and the coming years as a chance to play his best football.

"Going down there, I could quite possibly have my best footy in front of me," Hannay said last night.

"I'm not thinking of it as a couple of years when I wind down and fade out.

"I'm going down expecting to be playing some good footy.

"I'll be only 27 (next year) and will obviously bring a lot of experience to their team."

Hannay travelled to Sydney to meet with Cronulla officials, including Sharks coach Stuart Raper, when the Cowboys had the bye three weeks ago.

He cited the quality of living in Cronulla as an attraction but said his main reason for signing with the Sharks was a belief that their style of play would suit him.

"I've had a few chats with Stuart regarding the football side of things and how he sees their style of football and where he thinks their strengths lie," Hannay said.

"I think their style of football will be good for me.

"As good as it is in the system up here, I don't think it's any secret that the style of footy we play is concentrated up the middle of the field."

The Moranbah product said he hadn't been surprised over the Cowboys' decision not to re-sign him, adding he may have considered leaving even if an offer had been forthcoming.

However, he said was determined to finish his association with North Queensland on a high and would miss the Cowboys and Townsville.

"I've enjoyed my time here and probably the thing I'm going to miss the most is obviously the boys," he said.

"There's a few guys that have been there for a few years, particularly Paul Bowman, and it'll be strange not running out alongside him or turning up and not seeing him around the place.

"Also just the people - there's been a lot of support for me since the news that I wouldn't be re-signed and it's been very touching to see I've got that support."

Hannay joins Sharks

From the SMH:

Cowboys centre Josh Hannay has agreed to a two year contract with Cronulla, worth $150,000 a season.

Hannay rang Sharks coach Stuart Raper to tell him he would be joining next season.

"I had spoken to Josh several times in the last week," Raper said. "He rang me a couple of days ago to say he was seriously considering our offer and now that he's decided to come here he sounded very excited about it.

"He has been at the one club for a long time, but he started young and he's still only 26. He probably needed a change of scenery and he liked our plans for the next few years."

Cronulla desperately needed a quality centre because Phil Bailey and Beau Scott are leaving at the end of the season to join English club Wigan and St George Illawarra respectively.

Hannay is likely to be playing alongside one of the young centres coming through at the club who will be hoping to win a first-grade spot.

I like that buy.

Our defence has been a little weak down the side that Cov's and Scott play on. Hannay is a real strong defender.

At least we have a centre now, lets hope his shoulder and form holds out.

I think you will find we paid more then 150 though. Not quite the 220k he was asking but more then 150k.
