Does anyone know whether the Sharks let kids come to work experience or not? I want to become a trainer for the Sharks one day so would they let me go their for experience, if it helps my uncle is Trevor Bailey who is good friends with Ricky and also a talent scout for the Sharks. If they do how do I go about going their for experience, write an email or letter or what?

i dont see why they wouldnt, eagles, force and reds over here all do (not sure about dockers) as well as netball (whatever they are called now)
if i was you id get ur uncle to ask ricky about it and who to email and maybe get you uncle to speak to them 'my nephew is going to email you this etc etc he understands if its not possible etc etc but would really appreciate the opportunity" and then email them a letter with a request, the sort of things youd hope to achieve doing it and a copy of your CV
if you have bronze medallion, senior first aid or sports trainer certificiate (most preferred) id definately point that out. if you dont id recommend you get the later two as soon as you can

I actually did it many years ago, however it is one of those things you can only do if you know someone who works there and it sounds like you do. I would get your uncle to chat to the head trainer and make sure he knows about you, then send a CV through.

I would say a letter and then keep following it up do whatever you can to get in if that means leveraging off family do it.

If your uncle's close with Ricky just get him to give Stick a call and ask if he'll give you a run. Since their close he'll prob say no worries!

Sticky is a nice bloke once you get to know him he will probably give you a lift home and pick you up each day if you ask

Yeah mate definately, learnt heaps, good to see the inside runnings of the team as well. It was good to watch and help them train all week, then was in the dressing room prior to the game and at half time and sat in the players box to watch the game with a mate. I learnt enough out of it to decide whether I wanted to do it or not. A pre warning for further down the track, it is really competitive to have as a permanent job and also the pay isn't that great, but hey you only work like 30hrs a week, get to see every sharks game and travel with the boys around the country.

not in the shire anymore :(
If you're interested in being a trainer, perhaps you could think sort of outside the square.

How about doing work experience with a personal trainer? physiotherapist? gym? That would give you a good insight into a few different industries/areas that are related to being a league trainer, and perhaps in the future could give you an extra edge - you're not just a trainer, but a trainer who knows a bit of physio stuff, gym stuff etc.

so i actually started ^that^ today...
I think it was during the post game show after our game v the raiders they were discussing the idea of a new focus in tackle techniques where the first tackler attempts to win the impact and then hold the attacking player up. This is used so that any players tackling can hold an attacking player up until just before/as held is called and then throw them to the ground, earning valuable extra seconds in the play the ball.
I just watched a group of Western Force players and their defensive coach practicing holding up attacking players in a tackle.
Ironically the reason why had to be explained as some of the players didnt know the rule.
