"The "holy grail of rugby league", according to four-times premiership coach Tim Sheens, "is to have gamebreakers at the key positions of 1,6,7 and 9."

So tell me people, who do we have besides Kearney? Kimmorley is solid and steers the team around rather than ripping sides to shreds, Dykes is way to inconsistant to be called a genuine gamebreaker but has moments of brilliance, one hooker in De Gois has huge potential but the other in Kingston offers very little in todays game. Our problem next year is where to play our only bona fide game breaker? In my opinion he should be either 5/8 or hooker because Im liking what Im seeing in Mitch Brown. Please add your thoughts at will.

Completely agree and THATS what we have not had this year

Ricky also said this in a round about way in his last "Coaches Corner" when discussing the indefinite injury to Bretyt Kearney.

I believe given time at 1 Brown will inject himself more in attack and turn into a bona fide game breaker. Thing is Brown is really only at full use when in full back, and can't adapt into any of the remaining positions at 6, 7 or 9 where as Kearney is probably more capable at hooker or in the halves. Without having seen enough of Green, I've gotta lean towards:

1. Brown
6. Kearney
7. Kimmorley
9. De Gois

Kimmorley, De Gois, Brown and Kearny will not win us a premiership in the next few years. Look at Melbourne/Manley's numbers 1,6,7 and 9. We do not stand a chance.
Kimmorley is over the hill, the other 3 needs another 5 years of first grade. By then we will probably lose them to another club.
No idea how we get ourselves out of this hole???

I didn't say they'd win us a premiership, just saying where I'd use what we've got.

Melbourne's are good, but Manly's is mediocre, especially compared to what they could have, and next year's is even worse I reckon. With the exception of Stewart of course.

Yeah Capital the major difference with Brown and Kearney seems to be the ability to come into the line during play at key moments. Brown hasn't done that yet.

I expect Kimmorley to pair with either Watts or Green next season with Kearney at 1 (he's best there) and Brown and Simmons vying for the #2.

i never thought id say this but...kinga (who has come along in his attack this year) needs another couple of years in first grade, needs a bit more work in attack (doesnt need anything to fix his defence which is perfect) and maybe come off the bench or still start

1.kearney/brown
6.green/keaney/watts
7.kimmorley
9.de gois/kingston

17.de gois/kingston

Thats the problem, you don't teach players to be attacking genius's/gamebreakers. You either have it or you dont. Sadly Kingston doesnt.

Disagree 99.94% with you there Tef.

I think most players do have it, but just don't have the mental skills, or the mentor/coach who can help them to develop latent talent towards its' full potential.

CONVERSATION BETWEEN STEVE WAUGH AND DON BRADMAN

SW: What were you like as a captain?
DB: I was ordinary.
SW: Why were you so much better than everyone else?
DB: I wasn't - they just didn't realise their full potential.

How do you figure that Buz. There are only so many elite players around. If your view was the case then with the right coaching Kingston could be as good as Cameron Smith or Robbie Farah. I have to disagree with you there mate, you either have it or you don't.

but how long has it taken before cam smith became this good? hes been around for ages but only last year and this year hes only started to become really good. same with kingston sure hes not the best now but hes young and hes got the best coach in the world with him. so in a couple of years we should start to see the best of kingston.

Look Sharkyboy I know your a massive fan of Kingston mate but I'm just tellin like it is. Smith made his debut in 2002 and has been a gun for as long as I can remember. If your point is that Kingston may be as good as Smith one day I'm afaid your sadly mistaken. Kingston is a solid player who has some ability but this ability is mainly in defence. Because he offers little threat from dummy half it just makes our attack limited in its dimenisons. When he runs out of dummy half with the ball in hand trying to be a ball player he just looks lost, as do the rest of the team who really dont know what he is doing. And he makes very few yards from dummy half. We need dynamic not pedestrian at hooker.

not in the shire anymore :(
Would anyone else like to see Noddy become less of a defensive halfback, and more of an attacking halfback? It seems that while he makes billions of tackles and kick chases, he's just lacking so much in attack, maybe because he's buggered from all that chasing and tackling???

Maybe if next year, he focussed all his enthusiasm and energy on being creative in attack, rather than tackling all day and night, we might see some change.

OR, stick him in a position where he can tackle to his hearts content and leave the attacking to someone else.
