Remember the NSW and Australian selectors are two different groups. Just cause someone gets the nod at Australian level doesn't mean they'll be a given for NSW, or QLD for that matter RE: Billy Slater most likely lining up on the wing for the Maroons, which I can see the sense in, but thats a whole other topic.
Bellamy reckons he knows who he wants for half back, but is still a little undecided on 5/8. I personally think it'll be Braith Anasta at 6 with Bird at 13. NSW selectors rate Anasta even when he's going like a busted arse. Now that he's actually playing some quality football you'd have to think he's a bit of a shoe in.
Who will get the 7? Lots say Gidley cause he's been going well for the Knights. Right on, he has been going gang busters for the Knights for a while now, ever since he moved from the halves to fullback. This is no coincidence. Kurt Gidley is a fullback who plays his best football at fullback. For him to be best utilized in Origin (or any game) they've got to pick him at fullback. I believe they will if Stewart is unavailable. Which will probably see Finch get the halves spot. Face it Finch is fairly average for the majority of a season, but with a sky blue jersey on he tends to perform.
I don't reckon you can count out Jarrod Mullen just yet either. He put his hand WAY up the other day against the Titans and arguably form half of the comp Scott Prince last Sunday. He's got an opportunity to play the night before the side is named against the Storm in Melbourne on Monday night. If you gotta travel to Melbourne to face the Storm, you wanna do it when they've got something like 8 players backing up from a Test 3 nights earlier. That turn around time is long enough for the hype to shake off and the bruises to come out, so the Knights have a perfect opportunity, as does Mullen to have a blinder and be fresh in the selectors minds the next morning.
Anyway, yes, Bird will be NSW lock.
But who plays where for NSW really doesn't matter because the opposition remains the same dominant mighty Maroons.
