I thought that last year but I think they will go with graham and carney. Apparently graham has told people close to him he will be starting in the halves come round 1

Well based on today's press, first chance will be given to Graham 6 & Carney 7.
I'm happy with that for now.

I wonder how Kelly is feeling at the moment.

No doubt he will get a run during the year. I wouldnt' be surprised if he sees some fullback if Gards gets injured again. I know he was woeful in 2010 but two years is a long time to develop for a kid his age.

Was never a better fit for carney than any of the other 3 halves imo so He really needs to work hard now and maybe get himself a super sub role.

Yes alot of people thought he was the next best half which is probs true but it doesn't mean he is the best halves partner for todd.

as long as graham isn't used as an extra forward I think this will be a good match. Carney can't be left to do all the organising and show brilliance for the 80mins. He will become predictable. When he was at canberra, campese still was a ball player, as was anasta and pearse at the chooks. Graham needs to use the ball and take charge of one side of the field or he may as well compete for the lock position.

He will be starting at 6 with Carney at 7 for the upcoming trial.

The start of the season isn't the same thing, that will depend on a few things like combinations in the trials.
while what you say is correct mark if graham & carney are a starting halves in our first of 2 trials, they will
more than likely be our starting halves for round 1 too.

Not really. Didnt work like that last year[/QUOTE
well mark we all know carney will be in the halves come round 1, graham has first chance
to impress for the other halves postion plus a number of people on this site have stated
that graham will be in the halves come round 1 & these people are usually right.
makes me think this will be our halves combination. of course this may change for example
townsend may get opportunity & play really well & force his way into the team. but if i was to have
a bet on who our halves would be in round 1, i would back carney & graham.

Who are the people you're talking about?

We know they'll both start in the trial which signifies they are first in line at the moment however there is no way they'll play 80 minutes in both trials in the halves. Other halves will trial as well. That's the whole point of the trials. If the other halves impress more then they will likely get a shot. This is exactly what happened last year when Tim Smith was going to almost definitely be starting alongside Graham, and Kelly and Graham were clearly the best halves in the trials so we started with them.

There's a prescedent for this.

In Cairns they have a sports update on the radio every morning and was about trial games this weekeend this morning. Interview from Shane Flannagan stated that Carney would start the first trial game with the 6. Not sure how old this interview was but was aired this morning, but goes against what the paper said yesterday.

Hopefully team lists are announced today. I don't think numbers are going to mean much in the trial anyway.

i think we agree mark, graham & carney are most likely to be our round 1 halves pairing. trial form may
change that, like it did last year. i cannot remember names but a few people said in another thread that graham
will definately be in the halves in round 1. i am not sure but i think the thread might be your top 17 thread.
