When do you like going to the footy?

Just thought I'd get your thoughts.

In the 70's my old man used to take me to Endeavour Field to watch the sharks play. Not every Sunday but often on Sunday. In the 80's and 90's my best mate and I went to every home game and many away. Most of these were Sunday Arvo. In the 2000's I haven't been to many games. My dad died in 1999 and a part of my love for many things died with him, after all he was the one who influenced me to be a shark. The end result for us in 1999, shattered me.

I now have two kids of my own. Not quite old enough to take just yet ( so that I can sit back and enjoy the game.) I really want to go to a Sunday arvo game but in the last 4 years we've had about 10 Sunday afternoon games at home. The NRL are really killing us and they are not providing us with the opportunity to sit back and watch the Sharks play on a beautiful Sunny Sunday arvo. Other Sydney clubs like the Dragons and Manly have been afforded more opportunities to play on Sunday.

Not sure what to do but I want us to return to playing more games on Sunday. What do you guys think?

They need to reintroduce Saturday arvo games so there are more to go around.

I agree with this. The argument has always been that it will interfere with Junior League football although most sensible people see it for what it is - a bad TV time for broadcasters (at least in their opinions anyways).

I could rarely get to games on a Sunday afternoon growing up and always hoped Saturday 3PM games would come in. Sadly never happened - and I wouldn't expect it to when the new TV deal comes in.

Yeah, its the TV ratings argument again. From my perspective, it looks like the NRL has to think it through more clearly- do they want to take the cash that they get with an extra night game and then redistribute that money to the clubs like they do now, or do they want the money to go directly to the clubs through match day takings and all of the intangible benefits that come from daytime footy- a better standard, better atmosphere, more family-friendly environment etc...

I know the two sums are vastly different (TV rights money vs gate takings) but all of those other intangibles that come with more daytime footy would make for stronger clubs IMO- especially in Sydney where the tribal aspect is key the the success of the clubs.

Sadly AB the NRL don't seem to care about the fact that Sydney used to be buzzing with footy fever every weekend. It is a travesty that some weekends there is no game here on a Sunday afternoon. It seems to me that unless you are Melbourne or Brisbane then you can go to hell. I am not saying we need to go back to the old days but the days of the old Sydney comp were the best. We had footy on tap here all weekend. None of this Monday crap. If they want the extra game, bring back the Amco Cup at Leichhardt on Wednesdays. I used to love watching that and that is a comp that I know we can win! I just hate having to wait until Monday's and I want to take my 3 year old son on a Sunday like my old man used to take me.
