Ok - we've collected money for the Elevens, great effort people!

We've all sweated on the result of the EGM - Yay Team!

We have had a great membership drive & won the Battle of the Beaches - and have improved our membership numbers as a result.

We've just had the development approved.

Now - we all know this is only the beginning of what looks like a prosperous future - but we can do better than that....

We've all paid our memberships (I assume) and we're over the "silly season"

But, do we realise what we can do as a forum (The Elevens is an example) - to raise more funds for our beloved Sharks?

Let's remember what Gavin Miller said in the papers (I remember those days vividly) about taking pay cuts, with the players collecting money in buckets....

Don't ever forget who we are..... Let's show the NRL world what Sharks fans are made of!

I propose that we collect more funds for something else we can contibute to whatever eases the pressure on our day to day operations.

I'm not sure what that should be - but, if whatever it is gets set up - I'll start the donation with $200

Who's with me?

Let's go Sharkies!!!!

I reckon inflatable back white and blue batons might be a go. Sorry if this is crap idea.
Reckon we could get them done for quite cheap.

why not set up a player fighting fund for players so that we could be a third party sponsor. i am not suggesting that we will raise enough money to stop a player leaving for more money reasons. but if a player like snowden was unsure if he wanted to stay at the sharks cause of loyalty or chase ticklers cash.He may react like i would.
if i was a nrl player & the fans of my existing club were willing to offer say $1000 if i resigned, now that would be a club or would want to play for & i would not take their money. How good would that make you feel to know you meant that much to your fans.

Re-Signed. hehe I have already got into trouble for that. End of the day it would be a nice gesture but a K vs. 400K would I know what option I would go for.
I think the money should be used for the fans to entice more fans and also bring existing fans into the BELIEVE CAMPAIGN

gosharkies, the actual monetary figure being offered may not convince a player to stay, but the gesture may. It would also be some good PR for the club if an article was written saying 'sharks fans put up $5,000-10,000 for X to stay with Sharks'.

BUT the big problem is that it cant be taken as third party sponsorship if we are asking the player to stay with the sharks...

the pr angle was what i was looking at for example atm if we offered something to snowden, i could see a very postive press coverage.
maybe back page headline of shark fans fight back.
as a added bonus the gesture may be enough for a undecided player to stay.as for the problem that it can not be treated as third party sponsorship if we were asking the player x to stay with the sharks. i would be very surprised if a player actually took our money, but if they did i am sure you could find a way around it for example we could offer snowden say 2k if he stays. but the offical paperwork says we are paying him to attend end of season bbq & beers with the members of this site.

I still think a good thing to raise money for would be Sharks Forever Awards. These could be a range of different awards given out to player through out the season (for special things like what Porter went through) and after the season.

The after season awards could be something like:
Sharks Forever Player of the Year:
Sharks Forever Most Improved:
Sharks Forever Rookie of the Year:

You would have to poll it at the end of each season but that isn't overly hard.

The mid season awards could be given to situations like what Mannah, Porter and Tupou have been through. It could even range to serious injuries like what happened to Reece Williams and Ben Ross.

The injury ones would obviously be more of a I hope you get better soon, all the best rather then an actual award. Where as in situations like Porter's it would be an award showing how much we appreciate him push through his personal woes whilst still trying to do the best he can for our club.

I think this sort of thing would mean alot to our players. It isn't something that directly helps the club but it is something that would show the players how much we appreciate them. In a way it would help the club as it shows once again to the players how much we appreciate them which could push them over the line to resign with us, whilst we could also get some good media flowing the clubs way.

Great idea with all the Sharks supporters that are willing to help out in any way they can, with funds & so forth. Main concern is maybe the lack of funds the Sharks have to market their own team or market game days, such as when they are playing & who they are playing.

If can raise funds for this, I'd be happy to pretty much only do it for cost price to get posters printed for each home games & put them up in Shops around the shire. Even banners, billboards. What ever it takes to let people know there's an actual game on & get there & support.

That's the problem with some even most people around the shire, they don't even know there's a game playing at shark park. It's sad & needs to change. It needs to be the night where you join your mates & make a night of it to support your team.

All the ideas i'd say would have to be run by the club for permission.

i like the idea of sharksforever awards except i think all awards should be earnt not handed to a popular player that gets injured .
maybe we could give something to players that get injured but not call it a award.

I agree this is the way to go. I always bemoun the lack of match day promotion within the shire. Increased attendence in itself leads to more funds to the club which is what we want. This should be the focus of any scheme.

"Sharks fans offer Snowden extra $1000 to stay" - Some of you seriously think that'd be a positive headline? Weak on too many levels for me to get my head around put into text at the moment.

Yadam... as you well know, this is my focus too and also one of the key result areas of the BELIEVE Group. PM me if you want to be involved.
