What did he say?Scotland’s skipper talked a lot of **** before the series started and they folded like paper in the first two matches. Another reminder to don’t poke the bear.
Well what comes as absolutely no surprise to me, the call went out for a cricket coach for my son's under 10 team and radio silence from parents. Soooo looks like it's me.
Was hoping to have a break after coaching soccer the past two seasons.
At least I know what I'm doing with cricket, unlike soccer.
@Sir Chadley, any good resources you can share? I'm all over the technical side of things but I've forgotten most of of the drills I did as a kid. I'm thinking the second half of training will be in the nets but I need to do some research on drills for the first half.
Fielding drills for the first 10 minutes. Short catching 10 metres, long catching 20-25 metres, Players throw the ball back to the keeper trying to hit the stump. Then repeat but have the ball hit along the ground for them to field and throw straight back in.Well what comes as absolutely no surprise to me, the call went out for a cricket coach for my son's under 10 team and radio silence from parents. Congrats HB or is it commiserations?
What age group are we talking about?
To be honest I haven’t used many resources in my past coaching, I’ve just tried to teach the basics with plenty of encouragement.
Net sessions are great but fielding is just as important. I find that the thing juniors struggle to understand initially is backing up in the field. Some kids get it but some don’t. And doing it right can save heaps of runs.
When does your season start?
Edit: sorry mate I’m getting old, missed the under 10s for some reason!
Thanks mate, similar to what I'm thinking.Fielding drills for the first 10 minutes. Short catching 10 metres, long catching 20-25 metres, Players throw the ball back to the keeper trying to hit the stump. Then repeat but have the ball hit along the ground for them to field and throw straight back in.
Set up 2 rows so if they miss the ball the second player is backing up.
Pretty basic but it’s still used today.
Then nets for the final 30-40 minutes. Not sure how many lanes you have but split it up. If you got a mixture of bowlers (spinners, pace etc make sure they’re split up so the batters are facing different types of bowling.
Also at that age, need to teach them to slide their bat when running between wickets. So sometimes we would get the juniors ton bat in pairs. 3 balls each then on the 4th ball batters each run between the wickets, new batter then faces. Repeat every 3 balls. But push them as if they’re running a quick single and to slide the bat properly. Thanks mate, similar to what I'm thinking.
Bring back bodyline!Well what comes as absolutely no surprise to me, the call went out for a cricket coach for my son's under 10 team and radio silence from parents. Soooo looks like it's me.
