Yeah Warner, FMD. It's beyond a joke now.
Cricket Australia are holding back his retirement as I'd say he's planning to write a book about all the shenanigans that went on in South Africa with sandpaper-gate. I'd say he's about to throw a few people under the bus. Holding them to ransom atm. 😊

My young fellow makes his A grade debut tomorrow morning in the 14A Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Competition. We are playing Engadine Dragons first up at the Ridge Ovals. Engadine typically field a strong team so it will be tough going. I think I am probably more nervous than him at this stage.

Good thing about this season is that I am not coaching him, so I get to watch now and score occasionally if required. Knowing me though, I'll probably chuck a few balls at our next batters and give some encouraging feedback without stepping on the coach's toes.

It will be a one day game tomorrow, 30 overs per side. My boy is a bowler so he'll probably bat 10 or 11 if he does get a go. We've got a pretty strong batting line up so hopefully he won't be needed to pad up.

We've got a young girl as our captain this year and if she works hard at it, I reckon she could easily be a WBBL or Test player when she is older. She's only about 12-13 years of age, but you should see her bat. She is not a slog fest batter, she is one of the most technically correct batters you could hope to see at this age. We had a practice game session last Saturday morning and she hit her own bowlers for a handy 50 with about 7 boundaries. Not one of them went in the air. She's also a very handy swing bowler who has a knack of taking wickets when you need them.

Here's hoping today's rain will clear up for tomorrow.

Is he in as a batter or bowler or both?

Interested to find out how he goes.

Thresher after that tldr
Hah ha!

No I'm genuinely interested.

Used to play club cricket and when I started playing the lower grades there was usually a few of the better young prospects thrown into the team to play against adults.

Was always good to see the next crew coming through.

He’s a bowler mate. He can bat, he has the power to smack the ball but he’s not got the technique others have. You pitch it up on the stumps and he’s in trouble.

But with the ball, he’s tall so has deceptive pace and bounce and he’s got a natural outswinger.

It’s a pretty strong team and grade so I don’t expect him to take a swag of wickets but keeping the run rate down and winning games is more important.

Tip of the fingers, faster ball.

Back of the fingers, slower ball.

Plant the fingers to the right it cuts right.

Plant the fingers to the left it cuts left

Simple physics but worked for me.

Hope he goes well.

Unfortunately they lost Thresh. 122 to 107 with both sides batting out their 30 overs. As expected my boy didn't bat and he took 0-13 off two overs so not a great start. I think he was more nervous than what he was letting on.

It's good that he got a bowl in his first game though.

He's lucky to have the advantage of his height. If he keeps bowling the right line and length I'm sure his figures will improve.

Thanks for the update.

Former Australian cricketer Stuart MacGill has been charged after allegedly taking part in the supply of a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.

Police arrested MacGill, who played 44 Test matches for Australia, at Chatswood police station on Tuesday.

He has been granted strict conditional bail and will face Manly Local Court on October 26.

The arrest comes off the back of an investigation into MacGill’s alleged kidnapping in April 2021 on Sydney’s lower north shore.

MacGill was allegedly taken from his home in Cremorne and driven to a property at Bringelly, more than 60 kilometres away in the city’s south-west, where three men assaulted him and threatened him with a firearm.

About an hour later, MacGill was driven to the Belmore area, about 40 kilometres away, and released.

The incident was reported to police and six men were arrested over the alleged kidnapping. One man has pleaded not guilty and the others are expected to fight the charges.

@Thresher my boy lost again on Saturday. This is despite one of his mates scoring his first ever ton!

Unfortunately they batted first and their opener also scored a ton in a total of 220 over the 30 overs. We could only muster 185.

Figures for my son was 0-22 off 3 overs but he was no way the worst.

A grade is definitely a different kettle of fish. But since only one of the team has played As before, it may take them a couple of games to get used to how it works.

Funny thing was though, the coach's son, who is the only one to have played A grade before, came in at number 4 with us on target to chase the score but played like the pitch had grenades on it. At one stage he had 3 off 15 balls! By the time he got out, he had 23 off 29 balls but by that time we were behind the 8 ball, needing 70 runs with 8 overs to go.

Still, there's always next week and another chance to improve.
