We don't need him to win in Australia (which is the only place he used to be decent). SA bowling attack will probs get him out within a few overs anyway, even on a flat pitch.

May as well start preparing another opener on home soil in a series we will likely win anyway while we can with upcoming overseas tours.

The "but there is no one else argument" doesn't hold much sway when the current guy isn't getting the job done regardless

Time for Warner to move on to his carpentry career

So our next two tours are to India and England.

Old mate Davey's record in those two countries...

India
8 Tests for 388 runs at 24.25

England
13 Tests for 651 runs at 26.04

This year he has played 10 Tests and is averaging 21.

He is 36 years old. Get rid of this fraud now and get someone ready for the upcoming tours.

I agree but next in line is constant failure Marcus Harris…….

So it can get worse.

I don't think it can mate, give someone else a go.
I’m sorry, I want Warner dropped but Harris is worse, he’d be the one to come in and that’s unacceptable to me. We need a new option to emerge from the pack of mediocrity that is Australian opening batting.

Apparently Renshaw’s name is coming up again, I haven’t been watching him in Shield cricket, but if he’s finally figured out how to bat again it could be him.

Pucovski was the heir apparent but he can’t figure out but health issues rules him out for the time being.

They could also move Travis Head to the top of the order and bring in another mid order batsman like Hanscombe who’s topping the Shield run scoring charts.

This SS season

Handscomb averaging 81
Bancroft 54
Renshaw 52

Seriously, just give one of them a go.

Not a fan of moving Head, he's killing it where he is against an older ball.

I dont want to move Travis Head either but its the only way you could get Hanscombe in the team and he’a by far the best batter statistically in Shield at this moment. I’m not a fan of Hanscombe opening the batting though, it doesn’t play to his strengths and he never does it.

I wouldn’t be against giving Renshaw another go if his numbers are up to scratch, I did like some of his work when he broke into the test team years ago, was a hard out to get, but he fell away and just wasnt scoring enough runs. Apparently a stint in county cricket might of fixed some issues, and at least he is opening for QLD these days, most of the time.

Another option is to take a punt on a relatively younger option who’s impressing in Shield cricket like Henry Hunt (also opens for Australia A), or one of the Tassie openers: Tim Ward or Caleb Jewell and give them the time they need to get up to speed. But with an Ashes series around the corner I don’t know if we have time for that.

Maybe not but Warner has a horrendous record in England, I'm not sure you're really losing that much.

We have an awesome lineup from one opener down to 5, would have to be the best in world cricket. If we can sort out the other opening spot we're not losing may Tests.

I’ve been thinking about this and for the Indian tour I’d:
• Drop Warner and Harris from the squad.
• Renshaw and Henry Hunt into the squad. Let them compete for the opener spot with Renshaw getting first crack.
• Bring Handscomb into the squad as cover for the middle order and wicket keeper.
• Bowling attack and middle order picks itself.

This absolutely wont happen, Warner seems untouchable no matter what and regular failure Marcus Harris has the selectors fooled. But would anyone be against the changes above?

Nope I wouldn't be against that at all mate but you're right, Warner is untouchable for some reason. Gives me the shits.

Sounds good to me!

Just a shame about Pucovski injury record/mental health issues, we would’ve been sorted for 10+ years with him

Look, purely numbers wise he’s up in the conversation for top 10 Australian openers of all time. But he has hung on too long and he’s distracted. Someone in that selectors room has to have some courage and stand up and say “maybe its time…”.

I was so excited when he made his debut a few years ago. One of the best young batsmen we’ve produced. Absolute criminal that concussions are holding him back.

I dunno, his away record is so bad it isn't funny. Not sure he can be considered top 10 averaging low 30s.

Can’t discount the home record though, we didn’t always have flat road pitches, still dont for that matter.
True, you can't. Can't deny he's been great on home soil. Away Tests make up half his games though.

My intense dislike for the man is probably coming through a bit here :sneaky:

I get that. He’s not my favourite person in the world either, which is why I turn to his numbers for an objective opinion.
