Yes very true, it’s definitely been seen as his spot despite the lack of form and repeated injuries over the last 3 years.

The whole premise of Graham needing to perform to hold his spot is one people won’t even consider, which for me is a concern itself.

Wade's been better than Wilton the last 2 or even 3 games I reckon. I'm a big Wilton fan but he hasn't impressed me that much the last month or so

Wade's defensive numbers are the thing that's been most pleasantly surprising to me, they actually seem better than they used to be back in his prime but I might be wrong.

Would have thought they were gunna drop away coming back after long stint on sidelines, faster game and looking to be carrying some extra weight but he has done well in this regard and is looking better in attack every week.

Wilton is young , buckets of talent and a big future ahead. Wade won't play forever, just gotta bide his time and do his new role from the bench as good as he can and take it as a challenge.

When Woodsy was at the Sharks he said Wade was the real true leader of this team, was vocal and everyone listened to him and took their cues from him and is massively respected. Also said Wade drove alot of the training + structural discussion/plans ect.

That might not always seem evident to the fans sitting on the sidelines on game day but its gotta count for something.

I didn't want Wade taking Wiltons spot originally but I wouldn't mess with it now unless Wade goes seriously backwards

Would you re-sign him?
If so, 1 or 2 years?

1 year on reduced coin and see how he goes but I think Wade is wanting a nice juicy 2-3 year deal to see out his NRL career at Sharks

If he walks then we just give Wilton the spot and we have other leaders in the team that can step up. So we don't need to fight tooth and nail to retain Wade if he is unreasonable on the terms - sounds like that is what is going on with his contract at the moment

I would have thought he would take a 1 year extension and then head off to France.

He has made no secret that he would like to play (and live) in France, so it’s curious that you say Wade is chasing a 2-3 year extension.
Is that well known, a rumour doing the rounds or an educated guess?

Wade cramps that side in attack that’s the last thing Talakai needs and when he’s off the trend is we usually score points - I notice Wilton but maybe some don’t anymore because Wade is taking up so much of his game time. Wilton runs harder and is a lot harder to handle, you could find a spot on the bench for Wade but as a full time 12 playing 80 mins in his body nowadays I doubt it

On the woodsy thing - we were ass last year and missed the finals for the first time in a long time so I wouldn’t be too concerned about missing out on wades structural/game plans

Wade likes early ball but so does Talakai. Wilton happy to just take a crash option more often than not, won't really do much with early ball.

If Wade is offering a lot we can't see I don't mind him playing around first 20 and then popping up as a middle later in game.
Seems like the best of a bad situation if Fitz feels he is a must start.

Surely if Fitz doesn't want him you just price him out of staying though... sorry mate we can do a couple years but all we have is 250k

Yeah mate, I'd see it less Wade or Wilton, more what's Wade's role going forward? As @bort has said, Wade having a shorter stint on the edge then moving to the middle feels like the best fit, then possible shuffling to the bench next year.

Surely they don’t re-sign him…..yes he is a good bloke, but he is already blocking up and coming players, he has played sfa matches over the last few years as well

Wilton is better when playing 80.
Wades more suited to starting lock and bringing McInnes and Finucane leg speed on off the bench

Taking the emotive element out of the equation Wade wouldn’t be re signed nor would he generate much interest from any of the other NRL sides unless it was a bargain price contract, he is a ‘name’ & for that reason he’ll be paid & paid more than what he’s worth.

That said, I have no doubt Fitz will re sign him, let’s hope he does it on a season by season basis & let’s hope it’s not for anything more than befitting of a pay rate for a back row pecking order of where Wade literally is for us now.
