If clubs can't balance their cap then that's their problem. Our coach will just snap up the bargains that are left in the wake of the actions of the ****tards who can't count.

Manly r the ones to watch. Many millions tied up in 3 guys. Remember how close we were to signing DCE, but he went to titans then backflipped. Instead we almost got both our halves for dce money. And in just 1 season look what happened

That did turn out pretty bloody good for us to miss out on DCE. Turned out good for Titans too lol think Manly the only ones that stand to get ****ed from that whole saga.

We need to keep Wade. Lewy, Gal and Heighno are all done after this season. Surely that frees up enough cap space to re-sign Wade and poach another decent forward.

We need to? Be good to but we dont need to go paying the world for him. 2nd rowers/locks are everywhere, countless off contract

Yep, bidding wars are only good for those who lose them. (Oh yeah I guess they turn out alright for the player's bank account too).

With a hard salary cap (even if we don't know how much it is) this simply cannot get out of hand. Each Club will have $10M for example to work 25 players into. If everyone wants a million bucks to play footy its an impossibility. Its pretty much the reason we got a salary cap so Clubs don't go full retard and fork out stupid dollars and go bust.

the cap is there for equalisation. Without a cap, what Bronco's can pay a player isn't the same Wests could offer.

Nothing will stop clubs from spending money on stupid ****, or centres of excellance. God bless Gumtree

Um ... the current rules actually encourage this very thing. A one-town team has a ridiculous advantage over the others. i.e. Melbourne has a city of 4 million from which to source sponsors and TPAs... Brisbane has much of Queensland (say 3 million), NZ has 4.5 million etc. Greater Western Sydney has around 2 million people and the available market is shared between three teams - or seven teams if you consider that Wests play games at Homebush and thus compete with the Bulldogs, and any team who brings home games to ANZ. So actually ... what Broncos can pay a player isn't the same Wests could offer.

But broncos arent paying them extra. The tpas are. Anything else is illegal. Brisbane do have an advantage but really, how much better is their squad than others? Its not like they are forming a far superior team to anyone else. Why would they go bargain shopping on benji?

As a whole the teams are far more level with the cap despite the tpa's which do seem in opposition to a cap.... the cap has been extremely effective in promoting a level playing field for everyone and now all teams can win and not just not the richest teams

Exactly right.

The tpas will never been able to be fully scrutinised cos not all are written into contracts or whatever. As far as im concerned the comp is pretty level. Theres obviously a few teams that are up there every year but they also boost good squads, coaching and development programs in the 20s etc. storm can lose a star player and bring in a dreg who fills the void and they still finish top 4

This is all true however still think Simms reported to be signing a second tier contract for 85K is a complete joke.

Taking a massive pay cut to "play for Wayne" does not cut it.

Don't care what their roster looks like or what we all think of him as a player , it should not be happening , OR , let everyone do it.

I thought Simms took 85K less than previous contract not just 85k

The fox sports article I read said he was " taking a 265K pay cut."

Knights=350K
Broncos= 85K

Because "the Broncos only have second tier space"

I just read it again ( I am not to good at pasting it on here).

So would the NRL let us pay Seggy 85k for the 1st year on a back loaded contract I wonder, would that pass as 'market rate'?

Good Question.

Is Seggy is worth twice as much as Simms , then we can sign him for 170K.

Done.

Anyone remember Gasnier's farcical "contract" .Thats where "market value " was born.
