well seeing 'we' killed off all (most) full bloods it seems only logical that most would carry only a % bloodline (not to mention how much we complain about ppl not assimilating, then **** on them again when they do).
In any case I find it unsavoury of anyone to be judging who is what and whether they should qualify.
if the nrl thinks wade is entitled to the jersey then good luck to him and hope he has a great game!

I can't comment on Wade, only on my cousins. They both decided to 'qualify' themselves when they left school and couldn't be ****ed getting a job. I despise people like that.

A couple of my cousins have just 'registered' to be put down as 1/32 Aboriginal because it qualifies them for some kind of Government assistance. ****ing ridiculous.
I'd love to know what sort of assistance they would be getting that isn't what any other person is entitled to. My husband and kids are aboriginal and we don't get one red cent of assistance. It's not like we are rich either, both have minimum wage jobs. The only help I know of is what any other Australian is eligible for, if their income is low like many Aboriginal people.

And no offense but this is how it should be, all Australians (original and not) should be bloody equal, the ones who have a go succeed and the ones who don't, don't.

And before anyone shoots there mouth off I grew up in a town called Wanaaring, where I had more aboriginal mates then not.

There really isn't any additional payments unless you live in a remote community, then there are payments to assist with the added schooling costs.

There is a lot of myths out there that the indigenous get some sort of a free ride that the government will pay their way through life. It's simply not true.

Yeah, they should be. But due to years of discrimination they've started way behind the eight ball.

I agree, I don't (and my husband especially doesn't) want anything extra. It just gets annoying when people assume that you are. I've had people stating that Aboriginal people get free cars, free housing loans, don't have to pay anything for their kids etc etc. It's a load of crap. We pay for everything ourselves and have managed to pay off our house, with no help from the government, unless you count the stimulus package amounts, which we used to pay down our mortgage.

I'm not saying there aren't dedicated Aboriginal services, such as medical and legal aid etc but I don't think that's a big deal.Everyone in this country gets to access the same services, it just may be called something different.

Last off topic message.

where I grew up every five years on the dot the "communities" around us recieved new houses, 2 new cars, and 5 Motorbikes.

The houses are to replace the ones that got torn to pieces (literally), the cars did burnouts down the flat until they burned out down the flat and then were promptly burned out.. down the flat.. the motorbikes all got ridden into the river.

I know this because my dad and I towed the cars to the tip, pulled the bikes out the river and had to look at the abomination of a community over our back fence every day.

sad really because there where some quite smart and athletic kids in my school, all of them complete ****ing messes now. and why? cos they get handed everything.

I'm the furthest thing from a racist there could be, just sharing my experience.

I'm guessing it's Department of Housing you're talking about. Unfortunately some idiots (black or white) do destroy them and they are replaced. I thought they had changed the rules now, so that if you ruin the place you stay in you aren't eligible anymore...could be wrong but I thought they had toughened up a bit and made everyone have more inspections etc.

I don't know if people have been 'handed everything' but there definitely is a lack of hope, not only in Aboriginal communities but also poor communities. When I was first with my husband he actually believed he would never own a car, let alone a house. That thought had never entered my head, as I was pretty lucky, growing up with a mum and dad that both worked all our lives. Fix the hope (god only knows how) and fix the problem.

Great banter folkes... I myself was one that believed most received handouts.. Thanks for enlightening me to the facts.. As for public housing that is the one that drives me mental... Look after it or lose it , these current affairs programmes that run the same public housing story twice a year.. But never a solution... Drugs alcohol coupled with high unemployment within small communities equal not a lot of hope.

It's so easy to claim any government payments though. I am 1/30 and qualify for Abstudy haha you can also get receipts and just claim it under university.

My cousin claimed like a $80 or $90 taxi ride from the city to his place and said it was for an assignment.

Probably no less legit than the corporate deductions being claimed on any given Friday in Sydney.

I did say last off topic, but thought I'd chime in with one more.

There was a far more talented and smart girl in my year at primary school, she the best of all of us in my year and in any normal environment should of gone on to be something or someone important, now I can't tell you exactly what happened to her after primary school (I went off to boarding school) but I can tell you whatever asperations she may of had where quashed by her family who we know (by fact) told her university was not an option becasue if she where to leave there would be less dole money coming in for the family, from 16 she started having kids witha deadbeat from next door and I think she has six now, which have been a right cash cow for the family.

A waste.

the second even sadder story was a few years later, young extremely talented girl that should of been the next kathy freeman, was killing everybody in athletics and seemingly swam like a dolphin, still holds most of the records for carnival in this area, this time a group of families tried to intervene in her raising because they knew when she hit high school age what would happen, my own parents even tried to unsuccessfully adopt her, but cos of the "past" that is a big no no these days (ofcourse)..

she would of got any scholarship she liked to any sporting high school, a group of parents got together and told her parents they would pay for her to go to a good private school, they knee jerked and like all aboriginal kids in this area was sent to a cummunity safe house in dubbo, where even the best kids go really really bad. I won't tell you what happened to that kid, but probably the biggest waste of a life I've ever known.

I have a hundred more stories just like this, and I don't blaim the people in these communities for doing it to their children, they don't know better, there are no thoughts of money, jobs, buying a house, further education.. just have babies, get dole, drink, repeat. I blaim the government for providing the environment that bred this sentiment.

ok finished now.

So give them less opportunity to get out. Ok.

listen mate you have nfi, why would you even want a job if you had a house, money for and for every sprogg your missus or whoever pumps out you get nearly 10k, so essentially you can sit on your ass and drink all day. these ones have NO intention to work, ever. now I'm not speaking for all communities just the ones I have experience with.
