Welcome to Emu Plains, please be sure to visit our
the Toyota Cup

whats going on with the under 20's comp

can anyone answer these questions for me

tv coverage?
salary cap for the u/20's comp?

Opinions:
how will it affect the way the NRL is run?
will they ban u/20's from playing First grade?
who might be in our team?

I haven't looked into it enough to answer TV coverage and salary cap. But no you've started the thread I'll do some research.

It'll effect things greatly IMO. No more Premier League leaves a big question mark over what to do with players aged 21 and over who don't make first grade.

Under 20's, from my knowledge, will still be able to be picked for first grade.

Our team will no doubt contain blokes who don't make the first grade side and who are 20 or younger.

Really, will there be no more Premier League competition?

This Toyota Cup will 'replace' Premier League. Its a good idea, but needed a little more thought. Like I said, what does the 22 year old 18th man do on the weekend? Certainly not going to help curb the exodus of young players to the UK.

The clubs are chasing players that are under 20 but they dont have the experience that a 22 yr old that has played j/f and p/l for a few years and is improving his game for first grade.

Okay, doing a bit of quick reading it seems the Toyota Cup is set to be televised on Foxtel. Which is great for identifying young talent from the couch, where I for one prefer.

Apparently Titans, Broncos and Cowboys players who don't make the FG squad and are too old for the Toyota Cup will go back to QLD Cup as usual. NSW clubs will align themselves with a club in a new sort of NSWRL comp which in essence will replace Premier League, but be a bit more separate from NRL than Premier League currently is.

I just looked up all the players contracted to the sharks and the total is 81 give or take a few we loose or gain.Out of that number there are 24 that will be elligible for the under 20s next year. That leaves 57.Take out 25 for 1st grade and that leaves 32 players in limbo.

brian flecher chriss beattie, didnt first grade till they were 25. i cant see it working.
taking reserve grade away is such a bad move, how do you pull a player aged 22 from park footy to first grade, its the sort of idea loza would of brought in, when a younger player is coming through the ranks he needs older peirs to play under. how is a 20yr old going to look up to another 20yr old. if anything they should be pissing off the younger comps like harold mathews cup etc. i want to see men playing. not little boys

I share the sceptism and as Capital points out above the only benefactor will be the UK league.

With a squad of 30 first graders and only 18 required per weekend we are going to see many players playing park football. Park football is not rated by the players & you only have to look at how Hannay and Seymour have reacted. Most players will opt for the UK especially if the the UK Super League intends to bludgeon the Australian ranks.

A similar fate will happen as in Union, people will watch the 1st Graders but not Gymea or Jannali etc. Park football clubs will benefit little. Watch the ABC club union game on Saturday and you will be luck to see 50 - 100 spectators.

Why not keep Premier League and put the Under 20's comp on Monday night and televise it on FOX instead of a 1st Grade team?

why not go back to the olden days and have reserve grade and under 21s.

It made sense then (it was U 23's for a while), and it makes sense now.

Best post I've read from you for a while Fancy.
