I am a one eye Sharks fan, much like the rest of you on this forum.

Last night at the game i noticed that Manly would often have 2 trainers on the field barking orders when they were in attack. Whilst i didn't notice whether the Sharks were doing it or not what are the rules regarding this?

I do remember a ref telling Toovey to 'put a jersey on' last season or get off the field.

PS BTW sucked in Manly it didn't work.

They're habitual offenders at this tactic. Should be stamped out.

A thing that irks me is the lack of standardisation of the shirts they wear.

The Tigers & Bulldogs runners often have a shirt that is so close to the team's strip that you get the false impression of having too many players on the field.

The game against the Jets in NSW Cup on Saturday saw two trainers on the field in blue shirts almost identical in colour to the Jets jersey.

The Tigers ones were almost exactly the same as the jerseys.

It's not that hard to pick a colour that doesn't blend in with the colours of the teams playing.

I can imagine that it would be pretty off putting to a player looking to kick, or even counting numbers in defence. In a split second, it's almost impossible to differentiate.

This would come into the teams selection of training shirts. Strategic coaches would have thought of this and used it to their advantage no doubt about it

Engadine, gods country.
there should be a uniform across all teams for trainers shirts. they can put their own sponsors on there, but they have to be all the same colour IMO.

they shouldnt be allowed on the field unless tending to an injured player, or a break in play anyway.

Yeah, it's hard to believe that the Tigers' trainers would be wearing orange by accident...

I was pretty sure there actually is standard trainer shirts and the colours change based on role, example medics may be orange and water boy yellow or whatever.

Although it would be a very obvious tactic, if they wanted to be really sneaky wouldn't the trainers just wear the colour of the opposition each week, in the hope that they would blend in and opposing players go to pass or kick to them?

Ok sorry back to my original post. Does anyone know what the actual rules are about trainers being on the field?

PS Thinking of your bus driver having to take his time in that terrible weather on your 50km trip back to Brookvale.

Thanks for that Mark. Funnily enough it was the orange trainer i noticed the most 'delivering messages' he was practically organising their attack!

Why do they need a drink from kick-off ? Should be no trainers until first sub or first try .. they are as bad as the runners in AFL .. let the managers / coaches on the sideline like soccer to abuse the players .. massive blight

Agree, Should be no trainers on the field during actual game play. Sure come on & give them some water after a try, but that's it.

We all know the players most probably don't need any water every 5 minutes, It's all tactic rubbish, If you can't stick to a game plan for the 40 minutes of a half, and you need the trainer to tell you what angles to run, you need help with this sport.

Langer is another one that can't get off the field. He chases around behind the Broncos most of the game.

It appears the opposition are essentially playing against 14 men.
