Its an interesting view for Smith. My read is that it is bad news for ANZ.

I don't think it makes a lot of difference for grounds like us though. Its the state gov that have said they won't fund suburban grounds, not the NRL. I expect them to announce funding for Parra and the SFS.

The State Government should be funding Penrith, Parra, Campbelltown and probably Brooky at the very least. (Remondis can cover the south)

It's important to have a step up from a basic park to a mid-size stadum. It makes sense to bring sport and entertainment to the suburbs. We have the popluation in these areas to warrant it.

It's good news in a way but is this Smith guy serious? If he didn't ignore the fans he would have already known this. Has he actually attended a packed suburban ground in the NRL in ****ing Australia or his brain needed to go overseas to click into gear?

There is nothing wrong with a genuine change of heart or opinion but the fact he did not known this straight up shows how disconnected he is coming from his corporate banker wanker background. Having said that there are boffins in the NRL administration that are from a league background who has said big stadiums are the future which they arn't because league will not get big enough to justify it

In fairness though, there are a lot of people in the administration of the game that have been there for much longer and still don't get it.

So are they going to build a smaller stadium for the Roosters?

Why? They're mostly venues that get used about a dozen times a year and they all need heaps to bring them up to scratch.

Sports stadiums are almost always a waste of money from a CBA perspective. Places that aren't even "stadiums" even more so I can imagine.

I would have no issue with the state government tearing parra down and starting completely from scratch. Make it similar to melbourne rectangular.

It was curious article today about Smith suddenly loving smaller packed arenas (25k). Something I happen to very very strongly agree with, and I think the majority of fans agree with. It seems at odds with everything that the NRL has been coming out with regarding centralising games to huge stadia, ie. A redeveloped Parra, redeveloped SFS, and ANZ.

Smith has suddenly seen the light? Hope so. I found the article to be totally bizarre. Is the NRL hedging their bets regarding who will win the state election? Does Shane Richardson really trump Dave Smith?

The whole situation is impossible to read. I hope Smith isn't just playing politics with suddenly recognising the value of an appropriately sized stadium leaving Shane Richardson to take the flak if the libs win the election.

Apparently he needed to go to Maddison Square Garden to work it out. Smells a bit to me. Hopefully it is a face saving backdown away from mega stadiums like ANZ.

It does smell. I get the feeling something has changed on the potential govt. funding side of things

Yeah.... Shark Park has a nice intimidating feel to it. I don't mind that at all.

My reason for preferring Endeavour Field is more to do with 1) It was the original name of the ground after it was reclaimed from the old Wollooware Tip site and 2) the proud heritage that name "Endeavour" ( James Cook's ship that put our Shire on the map) has to our Shire as the nation's birthplace.

Jimmy Cooks ship Endeavour was on our Jumper to start with the white V and the field has had many names bur Endeavour field was our home ground when we shifted from Sutho.

And the name Endeavour is very appropriate in several ways.

I love the name Endeavour as well as I am an old person but Endevour, why did you leave the "a" from Endeavour out of your user name?
