Welcome to Emu Plains, please be sure to visit our
juodo...great player for our NYC team, even though he looks like he is over 30, he has always been like that, person i work with who played with him in the panthers SG ball team last year has huge wraps on him..

should get a crack at first grade

Joe Taefu
Mikos Tempania
Adam Volkers
James Willan

Not knowing all the players, but some this would be my TC team:

1. Ben Orcher (I see similarities with G.I, got the speed, skill, athletic ability, threat under the high ball)
2. Blake Ferguson (Very promising player, tall, great under the high ball)
3. Nathan Stapleton
(Under performed last season, seemed soft at times, tho showed glimpses of class, I think best position is FB)
4. Matthew Wright
(Promising prospect, 1 of Panthers elite jnrs, centre, fullback, wing, 5/8, great size)
5. Stewart Mills (Fantastic year last season, wing centre, showed mongrel and did a good job stepping up)
6. Shane Pumipi (I like this kid, has class written all over him)
7. Jason McGrady (Haven't seen play before, tho heard out of the Benji mould, comes across with same expectation as Filiga did the year prior)
8. Jon Mannah (Big prop with great attacking ability, if I had a bet to which TC player will get a run in FG it'll be Jon)
9. Lancen Juodo (A goer who always plays 110%, doesn't let anyone down, will be better with last seasons experience)
10. John Viiga (Played solid last season, tho hope we picked up another prop with more ability)
11. Blake Williamson (Another good solid player that should improve again this season, good attacking player)
12. Jack Bosden (Love this guy, tough, hard working, leader on the field, a great motor, play FG this season)
13. Jayson Bukuya (debuted in FG last season prob earlier than expected too, should look to be an important player and leader for our TC)
-------------------
-------INT
-------------------
14. Joe Taefu (Showed glimpses of talent and skill last season, look for improvement, prop)
15. Andrew Fifita (this guy has a bucket load of potential, a player that has slipped thru the cracks so far in his rep career, looking forward to a break out year from Andrew, 6'3 roughly 100kgs backrower with a mean fend!)
16. Jake Denford (hardworking player, highly respected and earmarked to captain TC in future, a true leader)
17. Trent Grubb (Something about this kid I like, missed 2nd half of last season thru injury, tho looks to have a high workrate, a great defender, 1 on 1 too, tho hopefully with a good offseason he will fill out more)

Joe Grima has apparently been appointed the new coach for 2009, due in part to his connections with Tony Zappia at Parramatta.

Yeah apparently he has also coached Malta, and has had experience as a Assisstant head coach for NYC and Premier League with Parramatta and has coached Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup with Parra. Not a bad resume I guess.

Just a thought on the Toyota Cup; I heard a discussion recently that suggested they should raise the Toyota Cup age to an under 23's or similar. What do you think of this idea? In my opinion, I think it has real merit. Currently, a player that is eligible for Toyota Cup is just too young to introduce into the NRL. There are exceptions to every rule of course, Israel Folau would be the first to spring to mind.

However, increasing the age by a few years might mean that the majority of these young players don't have to make such a big leap when they are called upon to play NRL matches. It doesn't have to be 23, it could be 22 or even 21 but I think those couple of extra years in the junior grade could result in better players when they make the move into the NRL.

pros n cons,
while the idea in itself has merit the higher the toyota cup age is raised the more into the scrap heaps reserves goes, and the fringe nrl to old for NYC players with it

I see your point but IMO it would be great to even bump it up one year, just to make the transition to NRL easier for young players.

Lancen Juodo will play first grade this year, he has been training the whole off season to get fitter. He lives near me so its a good sign to see him training during the off season.

I hear there's actually only 15 squad members going and that the remaining seats are for personnel such as NYC coach, trainer etc...
