i was just wondering if anyone nows about this guy
he was the toyota cup player of the year for the sharks last year
he was a workhorse in the front row
plenty of defence and plenty of hits ups
looked like he needed a good pre season in him but his work rate was great for a big guy

does any one know has been training with the first grade squad as i noticed he wasnt in the toyota cup squad this year

he is young but looks to have a fair bit of promise about him, i hope he hasnt been lost to another club, or that he is now playing park football as he is a prop he needs time to develop

He played some time on Saturday in PL. Not a hell of a lot though. I think that is his limit in ability, nowhere near NRL.

Should get him back. Admittedly don't really know how he's going for Wests but he absolutely dominated the 2008 Toyota Cup and players he's outperformed have gone on to much bigger and better things.

MPG = Metres Per Game
MPR = Metres Per Run
TkEf = Tackle Efficiency Percentage

Tolman obviously the pick of the bunch and he's showed it in the NRL so far but aside from Packer, Leha outperformed everyone else in terms of metres per game. JWH and Pettybourne have gone on to play Test football and Mannah's in contention to play for NSW next week, yet Leha outdid them all. A whole host of others have played NRL football too, many of which are now regulars.

Obviously Toyota Cup form doesn't always transfer completely to the NRL but the guy definitely deserved a chance to see if it can in this instance. It doesn't look like he's getting it at Wests and the Sharks could use another bench prop option. With Douglas, Snowden, Gallen and Tupou in existence I really don't think signing someone like Lima, LOD or Prior would be a great purchase, as good as they are, so maybe looking at getting this guy 'home' could be on the radar instead. That'd free up some money to look at shoring up the halves or centres and give the club an opportunity to really develop a player up through the grades as such.

I reckon he was the goods personally and the stats back it up, especially if you look at some of players he was outdoing. I was also the reason Wilson bumped this thread in the first place.. :p

Remember watching him and thinking he could be a good bench prop in years to come. Would be good if we could pick him up on the cheap. Where are you getting these stats Gallenator? I love my stats and want to know your source :p

nrlstats.com

More specifically, this for NRL:
http://203.166.101.37/NRL/index.html
This for Toyota Cup:
http://203.166.101.37/NYC/index.html

I fiddle around with them in Excel to get tables like the one I posted. They don't supply efficiency or metres per run or lots of other things I like to keep track of so I do a lot of copy/pasting and formula-creating.

2008..last time I checked it's 2010, stats from this year would be better
Well he hasn't played Toyota Cup since 2008. They don't keep stats for the NSW Cup. I just thought it was a good comparison point - many of the players he outperformed in 2008 were elevated to the NRL in 2009 and have really pushed on - in fact some of them showed there were up to it immediately. Could have regressed of course but I'm interested in him.

I'd be happy to have him back in the NSW Cup and see how he went. Wests probably offered him some dosh to go over there after NYC.

Cheers Gallenator. Seems we are a little loaded with talent that could be good bench props/second rows. Anelzark, Goode, O'Donnell, Inoke Taapatupouri (sp), Harlen etc. And that's not even including the guys that we already have on the bench in Cuthbo, B.Wright and Vave. Not to mention Mannah. Not so sure wether he would be worth even picking up, just keep our guys we have.

We need an experienced first grader to play prop off the bench with Mannah or Vave. Critical to our chances next year.

I guess so. Brian Norrie or Adam Peek could of really helped right about night.

Norrie had alot of chances last year with Ross out, evening getting to start, and he just didn't impress enough. I am glad we got rid of him. Peek was good but is too old at this point.
