Takahashi should be a lock. He's the prototype for the position in today's game

Issue is just that it’s not enough minutes for such a weapon if he’s splitting time Cameron MickFoley.

Give Talakai a 20 minute-ish stint over halftime and another around 15 mins at the end. He’s probably only subbing on for Cam in one of those.

Cam might start winding back his minutes?

Definitely, can't really imagine him dropping all the way back to like 40 or something just yet though. Averaged 60 last year and I could see it dropping to around 55.

In 2024 he played 26 games and in 21 of those he played less than 70 minutes. His average for just games of less than 70 minutes is 55.
So I think 50-55 minute games are still probably pretty comfortable for him and we might see a few less 70+ though.

I do think we will miss Williams defensive workrate though which might tweak when McInnes and AFB come off, and thus when Talakai comes on.

Old mate deleted would be better at this but...
Player | Average Minutes | Average Tackles | Tackles per minute
McInnes 59 37 0.63
Hazelton 37 23 0.62
Williams 44 26 0.59
Rudolf 41 24 0.59
BHU 24 13 0.54
Kaufusi 42 20 0.48
AFB 60 24 0.4
Talakai 49 13 0.27

Obviously the Talakai number is completely cooked by positional changes including 6 games at centre. But still, it doesn't strike me as a strength.
He made 33 tackles in 50 minutes one game which would top the list above but he also had a 3 game stretch with 20 tackles starting, that works out to 0.27.

But this suggests we do not want AFB, Kaufusi and Talakai all on together.

If it’s money he’s chasing he’s as good as gone for 2026.
Knights offer will blow us out of the water.
