Personally I think forwards should be a priority before backs when it comes to any potential signings
Honestly, I think I'm a bit lost now on what a forward pack should look like these days. Especially after watching the game last night, where both teams used their backs really effectively to get out of their own ends.

Weigh in folks... do you need one 'power' forward (the mythical 'mongrel'?), a ball playing lock and the rest else big but mobile? Then to compliment them, say least three 'power' backs who can make good metres?

Both Penrith and Souths kind of have this setup... Is that what a coach should aspire to with development and recruitment?

Tass would be good to have in the squad for not much coin. Slight upgrade on Iku. Good backup and possibly in the starting side with injuries and if the younguns don’t play out.

Do you just objectively think he's a bad player? Or too small? What don't you like about him
Too small, very average kicking game. Honestly apart from his Harbour bridge passes I don't see anything better than average about him.

Apart from that I think we're more than adequately covered long term with Trindall or Dykes to partner Nicho.

Soooo, insurance then?
Isn’t that a waste of a top 30 spot?

I think it's a chicken and egg thing... Penrith have this set up, Penrith have won the last 2 comps so everyone copies them.

It'll be the right way to do it, until someone else wins, then they'll be the ones that get copied.

There's a lot of copy-cat in the NRL, that's for sure.

But if you were a coach looking to builiding the perfect 2023 NRL team, how would you go about it?
And I know it's a question of cattle, but let's say we have a Gus style 5-10 year plan ;)

This calls for some graphs!

I personally think you want two Impact props in your side. (BHU type. Strong hard runners), but the majority of your middle forwards to be "workers".

Tass an upgrade on Talakai ? In what world
Yeah not my world

My wording might be off putting. I know he’s not an upgrade it’s why I wouldn’t be looking at him if we were to upgrade on Talakai.

Most here have already said it but Talakai is fine and better than most. Would need take a Cambell Graham to come here for example to throw him out.

Can you imagine Talakai in that Rabbitohs team ? He would be playing for Australia

Oooft.

Defenders would be horrified when they see Trel running at them but also have Talakai running outside him. Got to think quick

I don't by any means think he's the finished product, but he is so young and so far ahead in his development of other halves that I think he's going to get there.

Ages that halves locked down a spot - DCE (22), JT (22), Cronk (22), Reynolds (22), Cody Walker (26), Cleary (19), Luai (21), Moses (20), Nicho (25), Townsend (23), SJ (21), Foran (19), Keary (21), Hunt (20), Hughes (23), Munster (20).

He's also listed as 183cm and 78kg. This means he's taller than - JT, Cronk, C Walker, Reynolds, Cleary, Moses, Townsend, SJ, Foran, Keary, Hunt, and the same height as Hughes and DCE. There is no reason not to expect that he can fill out the extra 5kg or so to match many of their playing weights.

At this stage, I'd agree he came in as a bit of a one trick pony with the harbour bridge pass, and his kicking has been uninspiring. But he has been an 'average' nrl half at the time that many other good halves were playing cup or flegg. He's got 50 games under his belt, and definitely needs to work on some aspects. But I expect that he will go on to have a very good - great NRL career.

Whilst I agree with our stocks, we definitely don't need to go out and spend big on a half, especially one that isn't a finished product. If he was being shopped around and we could get him cheap, I'd be all over it. I think in 2 years he will be a star.

Ramien is indeed a specialist Centre, and i would like a CherryEsque ( W/O the Beak and Controversy) specialist fast consistent Centre, to partner him, in an effort to bolster our squad to become a genuine top 4 Outfit.
I personally think IRO or Talakai (or even Ronnie) are able to provide this. Much better off improving other parts of our team IMO
