Why the move to QLD for Kai? From those parts up north or no contract for 2024?

No idea on him specifically... but it's pretty common for players to head to Q Cup for a gig when they age out of NRL pathways and can't become a core player in NSW Cup. Most Cup contracts are just one year.

One big difference in Q Cup is that no feeder team gets 10+ players every week from their NRL team like the Jets do... so you are competing for spots most weeks with another guy on a Cup contract rather than training all week and then dropping to 3rd grade because all the fringe NRL guys come back in to the team.

Nicho, Toby and Jolliffe are a few prominent examples of success stories from taking this path. Lodge too (with off-field stuff obviously a factor).

This is Bessie's 7th team in the last 7 years (and his 8th in the last 9).
