Attraction breeds attraction and the Roosters are an attractive club.
The more high profile players going there just re-enforces it and in turn brings in more high profile players. Despite not having the best crowds in the league or the best home ground setup the Roosters are run professionally, are inciting financially / career wise for players/managers and are famous and have alot of history + success.
The Sharks are capable of signing big name established players and promising youth but we are not and likely never will be a first choice Sydney club for players. How many players do you hear say that will go out of their way they want to play for the Sharks before anyone else? Unless they are a local junior it doesn't happen.
But when it comes to Roosters, Souths ect it's a different story. There is more prestige, fame and allure with those clubs, it's just how it is. Sharks are a good viable backup option but unless a player really needs that down the road chilled beach lifestyle we are going to be second best choice. It's not like Hynes wouldn't be happy at Roosters though, get's the cafe, social culture plus Bondi & Coogee beach are not far.
We need to become a league powerhouse like Penrith, then we will have a stronger proposition and bargaining power to draw in the talent more consistently. Penrith is hardly the most attractive place to live for alot of people but their football club is currently the best in the country and success and premierships matters to players.
On the flip side you have the Tigers, failure breeds failure. You are not attractive so you over spend but get yourself in a mess and have to rebuild and over spend again but still fail and just dig your hole deeper and deeper and look worse and worse a prospect for future players.
