Umm maybe they are the best team because they’ve been developed better than anyone else ? Lol

Guys, cap is a genius we should all just listen to cap and keep our team, maybe we should roll out our NSW cup team next year they’ll be a real development team !
Well 2/3 of our team were playing for Newtown not that long ago, and 3 years ago our best player had 1 NRL game to his name. So there’s that…
Players improve mate. You don’t think Hynes is going to better for having a full year in the #7.

Yeah , I understand what your saying
Do you feel last years team will have the killer punch in 2023 ?
An express tall winger would provide some of that .
Conner Tracey in the starting 17 - Naa
I feel our backs with Wade dawdling amongst them lack something
Mate wingers are the least of our concerns.

If we disregard our halves .
I reckon we DON'T have enough quality backs
One or two injuries and our options are always crook

Should be a bit better this year with the emergence of Dykes and Iro. Sure, we could do with another one or two but how many quality backs are going to be happy playing reserve grade?

This is true for every team though. Who has gun 3rd or 4th choice centres or wingers?

Panthers with an injury rolled out Staines who is average at best. The roosters would regularly play Keirghan or Hutchinson in the centres. Melbourne were practically playing traffic cones out there last year.

I'd argue we actually have the best backup in the league in Ikavalu, and Tracey is not the worst in a pinch although we can all agree he's not a starter. Add to that Iro and Stonestreet who are our young guns in each position and I think we are covered well. We also have 3 guys in Trindall, Dykes and Miller who can cover fullback and the halves sufficiently.

I reckon Ronnie would kill it at left centre . BUT does then create a Talakai problem .
I really envy teams with tall , express wingers and size a bonus too , if this fella GROWs into his 6.7 height frame he MIGHT end up a weapon

It's amazing how some people want us to have a full first grade team on the paddock each week and another full first grade team on standby. Just isn't practical and I don't know why people can't see that.

I think it's more if you go into a finals game down 2 starters , we would be running on with liabilities
Apart from Dykes are any of the above threats ?

Yep. Have a great standby Fb and standby centre. If Ikuvalu was healthy we also have a great standby winger. Just need to replace Ikuvalu and they are fine. Using Miller on the wing last year was not ideal.

Like lining up Miller and Tracey against souths. I get it, but it's just unaffordable to do anything else. If you're Dom Young, do you take a contract to go play reserves at Cronulla over your first grade contract at Newcastle?

If you're Katoa and we sign Young, do you stay or look elsewhere for a first grade spot?

There's a reason teams who have bad luck with injuries don't win the comp. They all have the same issues with depth as the reality is there is a salary cap. You can have great depth and a weaker 17, or a better 17 and weaker depth. Pick one.

Don’t forget Stonestreet, I have him getting close to our 3rd choice winger by mid season.

He can’t play until round 11 though.

Imo they need a decent 3rd choice winger in the squad from round 1. Someone who is not Tracey or Hiroti.

Ron was one of the best wingers in the game this year but you want better still?

We have to currently run with Hiroti, Iro, Miller & Tracey but I do agree wing depth with Ikavalu out will test us.
We could possibly use Kennedy on the wing as extra depth as well as I see Dykes getting the jump on him.

Of course if you have injuries to key players it is more difficult to win a comp. There is a lot involved with depth though. If you look at penrith for example they have crazy depth due to a strong NSW Cup side and a good junior system. Yes there is cap limitations, but a well run system finds good depth.
