10 clubs are preparing offers for junior Paulo. Would love him here but he’s asking 800k and wants minimum 3 years.

He’s 27 so 3 years is no issue. Besides why would you only sign him for 2?

He’s prob on 700k ish now and is an origin regular and puts out massive numbers so 800k is about right.

Give him Fifitas money
I would. I do wonder if it's smart money for Eels to pay top dollar for both of their props and if they can or should match what other clubs might offer.

Pearce “Officially” released.

No surprise there

Knights looking weaker next year which is great news, now need Ponga to go to the Dolphins in 2023 and they'll go back a few notches. Hate the Knights.

You have to get in line behind Tank I think. He really hates them. :)

he is prob the closest thing out there to an ideal Andrew Fifita replacement

skillful, strong, dynamic ect

there are the sort of special forwards that can make a big difference in a game and you can stomach paying the $800k range of salary

it's when you are paying an Aaron Woods kinda forward that sort of money you are in trouble

offer fifitas current contract to paulo and give him 4 years

he is a phenomenal player
He's doing well now (arguably hit his peak), but I'd question a long contract for that type of player. So many of those big, dynamic guys burn out and you're stuck with a decent forward chewing up your cap. Fif's was arguably great value from 2012-18. Paulo looks like he starting hitting his straps in 2016...? Hard to tell with all the suspensions.

(this is all Wiki reading so someone might have been watching him more closely and have an opinion - have at it lads).

Fair concern but he's only 28, so 29 when he'd join us if we signed him. So a 4 yr contract will have him 32 going on 33 later that year.

So similar age to what Fifita is now.

There's risk but currently he's injury free.

A contract like Finucane's could be the go. 900k, 900k, 800k, 650k so averages out to over 800k per year but the last year isn't as much of a hit and we pay the most in his prime years.

Turns 28 soon.

I agree with Sparkles, especially with the way the game's played now.

If it's going to be four years I like you're suggestion of paying more up front like the Finucane contract.

Very very few props stay at their peak more than a few years.
I wouldn’t pay big money on one that has played close to their peak already so at that price it a big no for me.

Weird example given he specifically was on more like 600k not 800-900 but I guess I agree with the statement.

Also in trouble when you pay that kind of money to someone who gets/develops a chronic injury and starts barely making the side when there are multiple injuries.

Fitz would know Paulo through Blues, Paulo also know a handful of our players through Blues - he can come to us if he wants to play for Cronulla and be competitive. If he wants the highest offer he can go somewhere else. 4 years at more than 800k screams Dugan/Fifita/Moylan to me.

Forwards as a rule don't last long at the pinnacle of their game.

See Taumalolo. On a $10 million 10 year contract. That can screw your cap for a long time.

Was going to mention JT but I'm not sure if he needs to be nursed or if it's just cautionary. That guy is a freak when used properly

What would everyone think of swapping metcalf for Chanel Harris tavita?
He’s a true 7 and will be stuck behind Sj and possibly ash Taylor at the warriors.
He could provide competition for trindall and give the squad a more balanced look?

It's not a horrible idea from a squad PoV, but I'm not sold on CHT as an NRL 7. I prefer him at 6.
