I feel like we had this conversation last year, and the year before. People always write them off. Then those pricks always find a way to put egg on everyones faces. They’ll be in contention yet again.
They will this year but 2023 could finally se them decline I reckon, which is what Andrew was referring to I think.

You forgot to add
“Yay Storm”!

Not the biggest storm fan but I admire some of what they’ve done. Name the last big name signing they’ve made, prior to Coates (if we can call him a big name)

They make players better.

They still have

1. Papenhuyzen
6. Munster
7. Hughes
9. Grant

With Bellamy as their coach and money to spend I’m sure. They’ll be fine
Injuries had been very kind to them in the Smith era. They won't be always that lucky. Their forward pack has been decimated, but yes they will have plenty to spend now

Finucane from Bulldogs?

What they are good at is grabbing young studs out from other teams’ noses. It’s not like Pap, Grant and Cheese were numpties. They all had lots of teams chasing them and Melbourne were good enough to get it done. Same for Drinkwater and Scott when they got them. All of these players were schoolboy rep stars and guns in the NYC or Cup.

Once they have them in their system, they are great at having those players realise their potential. One big part of this is that for some reason Storm players are patient. They will bide their time in Cup - whereas players at other clubs will get impatient and want to leave. There is something about the culture that makes this possible for the Storm.

At the end of the day their recruitment is giving them an edge. It’s not just development. Also - Sometimes a bloke surprises everyone. In 2018 Pap would have had 16 teams chasing him. 15 teams missed out on him - while William Kennedy didn’t have an NRL contract and could probably have been had for minimum wage.

paps was offered to every club before the 2019 season and everyone passed, it was only due to injuries to nicho and drinkwater he got a run and the rest is history

Yeah it's definitely a lot of core to lose all in the space of a couple of years. At the end of the day Kenny and Kaufusi are guys that Melbourne gradually turned from coal into starters and rep players. If Bellamy wants to keep coaching then you would have to back him to do it again, maybe raiding the off contract Bulldogs 2nd rowers or something. It's a big if though.
I see it as good cattle rotation.
They're both getting on in years. They've avoided paying top dollar for guys who are at the tail end of their careers. I mean, I love that we signed Dale, for us he's a great signing, but he is already arguably on a southward slide. Injury affected 13 games in (a limited) 2020, then only 15 in 2021 (Inc finals).

They do. But come 2023 they’ll have lost Bromwich x2, finucane, hynes, Kaufusi. Big Nelson also most likely. That’s a huge loss
yeah, I know some big losses, but every time you think Storm lose a few key men and they will drop, boom they pull some guys in to lift, some blokes in their mid-20s and they become stalwarts.

love to see that in the Fitz era

This is incorrect. 2018 he had a great year in cup, made the NSW u20’s and was highly rated. They just didn’t think he would be ready so soon.

Also - you are thinking of Hughes (not Nicho) going down to give Pap his opportunity. Nicho wasn’t a Storm player at the start of 2019. He was signed around the same time Drinkwater was released (just before June 30).

Reece Walsh is all of sudden feeling homesick lol is likely going to request a release on compassionate grounds.

Where’s this rumour?

Aren’t they playing from Queensland anyway?

(It’s on fox and talking about next season and likely a target for The. Answered my own question)

Surely it couldn't be a bored journalist stirring up rumours.
