Hi guys, I haven't posted here before. I have been living with my family in California, SF and have been keeping up with the season through this site and its links and you guys back there have always seemed to have stuff covered.
I am just starting to let myself get excited about what might happen this year, but I just wanted to tell you guys how impressed I have been with your spirit right through the whole Bird thing. Of course we would all love Bird to be cleared so he could play but he has first to level with the club and reading the last thread on the topic it just seemed clear to me from the way you almost unanimously backed Zappia's stance that the Sharks are about a lot more than winning premierships.
To me the Sharks have always been about local content and pride and honour not just winning and I have always been proud of them for that, (except maybe during those Anderson years where it felt like we sold our souls a little in search of the big one. Langy to me just epitomized the Sharks). The Sharks do not buy Premierships, rort the salary cap (how could we?), they don't blame anyone when they lose etc Some things are more important than winning and the Sharks have a genuine spirit which is why particularly if we get to play Manly in the GF I think we will win.
Of course this time of year either way if we win or lose on Friday night the no premierships thing will be brought up. It would be disappointing, even heartbreaking to lose but if it was ever brought up I have always dealt with it this way. i simply pointed out that the Shire won eleven premierships in a row as part of the Dragons in the sixties and were in fact only created in 1967 in order to end this unprecedented dominance, a dominance which not very coincidently ended that year. Maybe that decision worked too well both ways but if you think it's hard not winning a P in 41 years imagine what it would be like watching us win 52 years in a row. I tell them that the real Grand Final is played every year between the Sharks and St George. That usually shuts them up a bit.
Anyway greetings from SF and I think no matter what happens from here all the boys, the club and the supporters have done us proud this year.
