It's not worth the trouble chad lol

To answer your thread, it's a combination of all of that and a million other things that need to go your way.

But mostly it's luck. There you go

So which teams does everyone worry about at GF time? I'm not overly concerned with Melbourne, I think they're over-achieving so far and I think we can beat them. The Cows and Brisbane, if playing at or close to 100% do concern me though.

Cowboys. We can match it with the others. They scare me if they play anywhere near 100%

Brisbane and Cowboys are the real threats if they play 100% we are in trouble.
Melbourne, eh they are doing well at the moment but I think we have them covered.
Bulldogs also kinda worry me (surprisingly) they have a tough forward pack and can match any team on their day (or play like dog****).

For me though, the cowboys are the danger I hope we avoid them like the plague in the finals.

We will win if we beat all our opponents during September by at least 1 point and our opponents on the 1st Sunday in October. You read it here 1st.

Cowboys have been head and shoulders above anyone we've played this year

I think the Cowboys are the toughest especially in defence. The only way we got across the stripe was an intercept, so defensively they are tough. I think the Broncos will be thereabouts but while they have brilliance I think they have mistakes in them too. I don't see the Cowboys as a team that makes a lot of mistakes they are very well drilled.

Melbourne have surprised me. Without Slater I thought they'd struggle to make top 4 and would settle for bottom of the 8. But Munster is a more than good replacement, their structures are still good and Bellamy gets them well prepared. Throw in Cronk controlling the plays and Cameron Smith controlling the ruck (and the referees!:) ) you still have a formidable side. But if they aren't allowed to get away with the wrestle, they can be broken down.

I would say Melbourne they seem to be cruising under the radar top of the table not many injuries besides B.Slater & Curtis Scott that i can think of,
Sharks are getting attention in the media for the right reasons, more pressure will be on the Sharks to win one than the Storm to win another..

It is a combination of all options but the most influential factor has to be the coaching. Its all good to have all the players but the coach works out how to play those players. I would also add its the coach who decides who he wants to recruit as well.

Planets have aligned.

Only thing that can stop us now is if one of those planets sends a meteorite Sydney's way just before full time in the Grand Finale.

You could make the same sort of case for the Storm though. They've been just as good maybe even better then us.

As for your original question Chad.

IF we are to end the drought it will need to be a combination of all those things. Probably the big one will be the continued good luck we've had with injuries. We are one key injury away from falling back to the pack, as it would most teams. Biggest thing our roster needs to do is stay healthy.

Having guys like Maloney in our team this year will help. We're less likely to crumble under pressure (less likely but we still could).

By 'guys like' I'm including Lewis, Ennis etc. and also young Bird. Those greedy bastards wouldn't give an inch on the big day.

In all seriousness, a healthy list will decide whether we make the grand final. Composure will dictate if we win or lose it.

I'm a long term Shark fan now living in the US. Absolutely delighted to see the team playing so well this year. I think that this could be the year and the key to success appears to be that we have a well balanced team. Good forwards, good halves and some terrific young backs. Never before have we had the depth of talent to cover injuries, etc. However, the individual player who appears to have made a huge difference (yes I watch the games at crazy times on my computer) is Ennis. While Gal is the team captain, Mick Ennis appears to be a bit of a general on the field with the way he sets up things. He is smart, experienced and inspires confidence. This could be the year!

Stars aligned.

50 years, Poms out, Trump in, Sharks win GF, WWIII. /end
Hope that you're wrong about Trump (and the war). This isn't the place for politics but he would be a total disaster. However, in agreement that the stars are aligned - this is Cronulla's year.
