Rounds of note that the club might consider running a novelty/charity jersey for:

Round 5 vs Manly Sea Eagles (Heritage Round)
Round 7 vs North Queensland Cowboys (ANZAC Round)
Round 16 vs Gold Coast Titans (Women Of League Round)
Round 22 vs Gold Coast Titans (Close The Gap - Indigenous - Round)

I think this is a golden opportunity to sport an Indigenous Jersey and pay homage to some of the great Indigenous icons from club history. We will be welcoming home two members of the Inaugural Indigenous All Stars in Preston Campbell and Greg Bird. I think this would go a long way to breaking down the stigma attached to the Shire in a big, BIG way.

With the other novelty rounds, we can wear our Heritage Jersey during Heritage Round and I'm not sure we need to do anything at all for ANZAC Round. It would be good to see the club do something for the Women Of League Round, as they are an important demographic in the game and we have the Glen McGrath Foundation that we can associate with a little closer. I'm not sure we need a "pink" jersey, but something simple like pink socks seem appropriate.

Thoughts?

For the McGrath Foundation I agree with pink socks and maybe pink shorts.
And the same with the men's cancer game, but in yellow.
The Heritage round, leave as is.

That's all we need to do for the year.

El Coco - agree completely with your thinking. From a marketing perspective it makes sense for the Sharks to be associated with high profile 'good' causes. Our brand has taken a battering and it is a smart way to rehabilitate it.

The indigenous jersey is a good idea. IMO we could do more to leverage the Sharks brand with some of the great indigenous players we have had in the past.

A close link with the McGrath Foundation is a no brainer. We are his local side so there is a natural fit. There are a number of high profile cricketers living in the shire - Watson, Stu Clark, Ponting, Steve Waugh and McGrath. We could propose an all-star 20/20 cricket game for the McGrath Foundation. Have MacGrath captain one side and a Steve Waugh or Shane Warne captain the other. Add in some other top cricketers and some Sharks players and we could generate some great publicity and goodwill.

It's an okay idea, but I don't think we should be paying tribute to the guys that are now at other clubs. Particularly this guy: :birdno .

We should find out what the aboriginal word for "Shark" is and use it on an alternative logo to be worn on the jersey for that match.

It would be good to use the dialect of the Dharawal people. I think they were the original inhabitants of the shire.

As long as it is not "wobbegong", it would go nicely.

I'm all for an Indigenous Jersey but please not a Papunya Tula dot painting. That style has come to be associated with all Aboriginal art even though it is culturally pretty specific to the Papunya people in Central Australia.

If we are going to do something like that, I'd like to see it done by a representative of the Dharawal people who were inhabitants of the land south of the Georges River down as far as about Otford... well extended a lot further south than that as well but that's a whole different ethnographic discussion!

It would be great to get the design done to describe their dreaming in the techniques that were traditional to the indigenous people of our area.

i wouldnt mind an indigenous style jersey.
but any of the jerseys we do wear need to go on sale to the general public

I understand where you're coming from here, snow. I really wanted to grab one of the yellow cancer round jersey's at retail price but ended up having to get one at premium dollars. The problem is that when a manufacturer sets a minimum order, it's often hard to get rid of that minimum order. Sure, you get your diehard fans that buy every jersey under the sun, but they are a minimum. As an example of my point, the most common jerseys I see on special these days at most league retailers Aretha pink jerseys from Penrith, Parramatta and the Roosters. Even Manly struggle to get rid of their stock. In a nutshell, only the diehards tend to grab these.

If Blades are willing to lower the minimum order from what ISC had, it may very well be a possibility.

But aren't they making say 25 jerseys for the game anyway? Why can't they make 125 in that case?

Different cuts of jersey. Player jersey's aren't the same as fan jersey's. All the jersey's the players wear are "premium" styled jerseys with little bits and bobs to them that make them more serviceable on field. I'd be willing to bet it costs the club around $4,000 plus the 10% premium just to have their top 25 jersey's made. I'd be surprised if the board were willing to sign off on the manufacture of 100 jerseys with no guarantee of sale. I'm not sure what the prevailing logic is, but I'm not sure a manufacturer would bother with an order so small. More pain than it's worth, I'd imagine.
