Like what's been said already, having a supporter base in the crowd for a player like Carney could be genius. For a young guy whose had numerous issues off field, to be shown that sort of faith by his home crowd could be just what he needs to make him concentrate on his footy and let that get the headlines in the news. I think its a good idea, im sure they will have a 'Carney Army' chant similar to the barmy army. It can really only mean a better atmosphere at games, more supporters there the better, doesn't matter if they're the CSSC or the Carney Army, they're still suporting the mighty black white and blue!

In all honesty, and in my professional opinion, I would have to say that the word "finatics" is far more a readily marketable word than any of the other names or acronyms that supporter's groups have come up for Sharks fans.

It's simple, clever, witty and speaks intrinsically of passion, obsession and fervour.

Marketing is not about engaging the already engaged - it's about attracting and enticing latent belief and desire and amplifying that into engagement and commitment.

It takes nothing to make the convinced consumer wish to purchase - the real skill is to bring the unconvinced, sceptical or enervated to the cash register.

I do agree the Finnatics was and probably still is one of the better supporter names with obvious reasons that you just mentioned, however fans are excited about the signing of Carney. As long as they turn out in numbers it will be good for the club.

However i do remember in the A-league Sydney FC fans had a carney army for their player at the time - David Carney - and they wore wigs to match his strawberry blonde/red hair, does that mean our guys will wear tattoo sleeves ; )

Haha i for one am just glad theres more fans trying to attract others to matches. On ya lads.

Yeah i agree with Fitz the Finatics cover all sharks supporters but i'm happy with the CSSC and the Carney Army,
what ever goes more bums on seats which means more support and survial of the Mighty Sharks.

all my early memories at shark park was the "Finatics" going nuts at the old southern end on the grass waving their flags, singing up up cronulla, throwing dunny rolls and ripped up news paper

One of the Finatics put me onto this forum all those years ago.

I joined the finatics when I was about 13 or 14, I actually found their old website through this forum back in the day. They were great, I guess I came in at the end of their glory days, they used to be a force. Joined the CSSC in 2008. I used to have a banner "That aint n fLUKE" for luke covell haha.

lol wasnt Peachey (member of here) part of them. And he always use to start fights about it being better then the CSSC?

i think Peachey was always CSSC (maybe since 2009 at least), but it was SOS who was always finatics.

That is ofcourse if my memory serves me correctly...

Peachey was Finatics through and through, and spent every waking moment taking shots at the CSSC.

Then one day, he joined the CSSC and the rest is history.
