Hey guys, just a quick question for a uni assessment...

Does anyone know where/how i could access figures to tv ratings re: superleague vs ARL for the 1997 season?

I've done a bit of a look around the ABS website but to no avail.

or off the top of your head (or otherwise) do you know which code commanded greater tv ratings?

Thanks.

i know SL had better crowd attendance but not sure of TV ... thanks for your help guys
It would be difficult for you to quantify, but I remember there were HEAPS of free tickets handed out for SL every week. Not sure if they did that for the ARL as well.

It's a real shame SL failed, we would have been the most dominant sport in the world by now.

It was, Packer owned Optus while Murdoch owned Fox. The ARL was a play thing in the battle between two giants. Packer in the end won.
Sort of. Fox is still here and News Ltd ended up with half ownership in the NRL. All in all though, I think most parties probably ended up losing money... initially, at least.

And they would be royally screwed in NSW and QLD if they ever lost the Rights. You have no idea how much I'd love to see that happen.

Packer won because he got to buy the rights to a major ratings winner for something like $30million even though the AFL got almost 10 times that.

He then got to sell onto Foxtel in later years the games he didn't want.
