Brisbane's Suncorp stadium on fire
Paul Kent From: The Daily Telegraph
January 12, 2011 11:39am

BRISBANE'S Suncorp Stadium is on fire after rising flood waters short circuited after, fire-fighters believe, a generator box short circuited after rising flood waters.

Smoke is streaming out of a second story vent where it is believed a generator lurks behind.

With Brisbane River having broken its banks flood waters have begun flooding through Brisbane city and right now the water level is about 1-1.2m high on the ground floor of Suncorp stadium.

As yet the playing surface inside is yet to be covered in water.

However, streets surrounding the stadium have flooded well over 1m and close to 2m high.

Fire fighters are currently outside the stadium determining how they can get inside to put out the fire that is burning on the western side of the ground.

Shortly after 10.30am a large explosion boomed from behind the vent, sending black plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

"There's been a secondary explosion from the vicinity of the substation," a fireman said over radio.

As an alarm bell continues to ring as background noise, firefighters have gained access to nearby rooftops to check for damage and a current safety status.

They are still trying to find a way into the stadium

The upcoming All-stars match is getting abit of the worry.
Skilled Park is in abit of a mess as it is, and at risk of flooding if rain continues. I assumed Suncorp would be the back up, but thats getting more and more doubtful by the day....

Let it burn!

I'd normally wholeheartedly agree with that statement but that's a tad harsh, IS.

In saying that my hatred towards Queensland has softened somewhat after spending the week up there after Christmas.

Great place.

Although I will still hate the Maroons though.

Rest of the sports teams up there no longer bother me.

That would have made a bit of noise when it went.

Wanka!!!

Not the appropriate time to be Wearing ur blues shirt mate ... Obviously u are ignorant to the hundreds of people who work at suncorp.. Te families who depend on the stadium for a job.. The money it brings to the community ... The benefit a world class stadium beings to the game.. If any one of the new stadiums was buring I can just imagine the response If Qld was saying this type of stuff...

I guess it goes to show how burnt an deeply humilitated u r to try to relate this to state of origin..

I believed people were better than this!!

On the contrary. I'd be more than happy to see Homebush in a pile on the ground. It's an abomination of a stadium. Suncorp on the other-hand, is (was?) a quality football stadium.
