We all speculate where we win/lose the game, just came across some interesting stats (I thought they were interesting sorry to those of you who do not agree/like stats).
How we rate compared to the rest.

1st - Missed tackles (42 per game)
3rd - Errors (14.4 per game)
4th - In total sets
8th - All runs
6th - Metres made (We are making good metres for each run)
15th - Line breaks (3 per game)
16th - Possession

That is interesting... but it shows that we have no attack.

reality is that we are going to have a worse of season then last year if we dont start scoring points. And I think Ricky knows that and thats why he is willing to trade noddy.

can someone tell me if they know how many tries we have made from outside the red zone?

how do we not conseed that many points but miss that much tackles? it shows how much possession we've had but failed to do anything with it. things to work on but still plenty of time to sort it out with another 15 or so rounds to go

the fact that we miss tackles yet don't concede points has little to do with point scoring ability.

what do you kids do at school?

less than what i did apparently.

we should be better than this. i was reading a good phil gould report (shock horror) the other day about us saying our games are just plain ugly, and as such any game we play can go either way, hence why we beat the 'top teams' and lost to the 'poor teams'. sure, it looks good(ish) when we won, as we say we can hold onto the close games, but when we lose its just crap, cos the games we've lost thus far are games we should have won! we should be 7 and 0 by now, but as per our recent form we look to be falling back into the hole we fall into every year (tho this year its come earlier than expected).

what happened to our inpenetrable defence?
we traded it in for a little more attack!
we have the potential to go so far this year, but as ive said before, ricky just needs to get them to play as a team

Look at our possession, last in the competition, if we had more of the ball, then we could be scoring more points, but we keep making stupid errors and coughing up possession. There needs to be more control over ball play. Last week was a bit better because they were making lots of offloads, but we tend to push things that shouldn't be pushed. Ricky needs to address this immediately.

Possession isn't the main problem look at last week, we had enough ball to put on 3 or 4 tries aganist the tigers in the 1st 15 mins and couldn't get over the line, I agree the problem is what we are doing with it, silly errors are hurting us and making us defend more which in turn gives us more chances at missed tackles, but in saying that we keep most teams below 20 points and normally we can defend our line solidly for 3 or 4 sets.
But with our lack of attack or finishing ability we struggle to score more than twice per game which makes our goalkicking very important we must turn 4 into 6 which Covell is not doing and im not sure but have we ourselves cracked 20 points this year?
With us not scoring points we havn't been able to put any side away all year even the games we have won we were a chance of losing, sides know were not going to blow them out and that they will never be out of the contest.
We have a poor attack and any possession we do have we are normally looking to score off kicks, or main weapon is our backrowers we need a playmaker who can work them into holes then they can create for others with good offloads instead of 50/50 ball

Our highest score for 2008 so far is 20, in 2005 it was 68, in 2006 it was 40 something, in 2007 it was 38 or so, Our attack and points scoring ability is slowly dwindling each year.

Not making excuses, or denying the above, but defense has become more dominate every year the last few years.

No doubt about that GW, but our defence seems to have improved at the expense of our attack, which shouldn't happen, we need to do both efficiently.

Surely its the amount of emphasis given to that particular area, when Ricky originally came to the Sharks he said our defence needed to improve especially our goal line defence, so hopefully now that area is ticked we can concentrate as much on attack...

Yeah true, but I think it is really a defense dominated game at the moment, it is almost a case of whoever wears down first, as most teams can beat anyone on their day.

Yeah but the season isnt finished yet and last time I looked we have only played seven games. If you are going to spring these stats on us mate be fair and wait until the season is over. You may win the point then and only then.

i've said it before.

training run for 2009,10,11

I hate to admit it but I've been thinking the same thing myself. I've got no doubt we are a team on the rise but Ricky's full influence may not be felt until next year. We got Tupou, all but Barrett and if we sign just one quality outside back then we will be a real force. I'd love to snare Darius Boyd, the kid can play a bit and is the leading try scorer. Really underrated in that backline.

I am saying that we seem to have lost our attacking flair, and just concentrated on Defending well. We need a mix of both though, you can't win a game if you can't score points at all.

this is a really interesting thread, that point that our scoring ability has gone down each year is absolutly right, but our defensive ability has come good.
There was nothing worse than years ago when u knew, when they were on our line it was all over. We couldnt hold anyone out.
The Cowboys are like it now, can score lots of points but defensivly ordinary.
I know its frustrating now, but i for one dont want to go back to the days where we win by 50 one week, lose by 50 the next.
I think Ricky is trying to build a specifically defensive team, and then, teach that team how to score points. Which is proving more easily said than done.
You can see he knows what he wants to achieve, it just takes time to get it together.
Which leads into this , SIGN SEYMOUR NOW!!!!! FFS.
The kid is creative and very good defensivly.

I share you opinion too. It is a good thing that we have decided to focus on Defending well, which used to be a myth, but the hard part is now to keep that defensive edge and also attack with a spark for the full 80mins.
