Queensland pantsed us

Ben Creagh, Michael Weyman, Matt Cooper, Trent Waterhouse - thanks for your efforts boys, but see you on the way out and don't come knockin' again.

If NSW is fair dinkum about at least competing in this year's State of Origin series, it needs to start by handing out redundancies to those four.

They were completely ineffectual in the 28-24 loss to Queensland in Sydney on Wednesday night and need to be replaced by some Origin hard nuts.

Give me the likes of Paul Gallen and Greg Bird any day of the week.

They are tough, street-wise hombres who refuse to be stood over.

If the knuckle is on, you can bet the Bruise Brothers will be first on the scene.

I thought NSW's lack of aggression in game one was pathetic.

They talked it up before the game but I've seen harder hits in a schoolyard rumble.

It was one of the tamest Origins I've witnessed.

There have been calls to punt coach Craig Bellamy immediately after the Blues' weak effort but what's the point now?

Let the man go out with a bit of dignity.

It's not going to matter who coaches NSW if they keep picking the wrong side.

Bellamy got the side he wanted but I'm not so sure it was the side the selectors wanted.

It will be interesting to see if the selectors get more of a crack for the second game.

What Waterhouse was doing in the starting side with Luke Lewis on the bench I will never know.

As I said from the top, Creagh struggles at this level, so too does Weyman and surely that's the last we'll see of Cooper in a sky blue jumper.

Jarryd Hayne had an unhappy game on the wing - he's an out-and-out full-back and should be picked there.

Kurt Gidley has to be in the side but not at No.1 and I'd be pensioning off 'Noddy' Kimmorley, although he tried his guts out, and looking to the future with Mitchell Pearce...

Even this idiot knows the score - and he is a retard Manly supporter.

- Forwards were sooooo ineffective, Perry is ****ing rubbish.. he has to go! Same goes for White.. he can eat a dick! Creagh was ****house and waterhouse was worse! TLL was good I thought and Watmough deserves to retain his spot. In comes the bruise brothers + Snowden & King

- Backs had limited opportunities but i think that it was obvious that Hayne has to be at 1, Gids to bench! Lyon has to be at centre, Baz to 6, Cooper can **** off.. Tahu to wing and Josh Morris or Jennings to come in as the other centre.. QLD made it evident that Idris is not ready, back to Canterbury big fella! If Pearce is fit and firing he might take noddy's spot.. he offers a bit more creativity in attack

1. Hayne
2. Tahu

Pretty disappointing game, NSW just couldnt get the job done. Drop Cooper for sure. Idris looked good in attack but was found out in defence so I'd drop him to. Lyon to centre as he didnt do anything to help Kimmorley. Baz to 6. Gallen and Laffranci to replace Waterhouse and Creigh.

Kimmorley had an awesome game last night but basically was the lone NSW half which is inexcusable at this level.

I will say it again, a coach has been sacked, players have been dropped, when are the selectors going to be held accountable?

Is that right? Well that changes things for this year anyway, but I spose Bellamy was always going to lose his job if he lost again this year so he should get the team he wants.

This team right here should start showing some Heart, which is what NSW was missing the most last night. some one earlier said it. QLD play with heart respect and feeling. NSW half the time are playing for themselves. I mean Hayne is more worried about how much money he is getting for playing the game instead of for the pride of the jersey. The only reason he gets a jersey in my team there is because he can be explosive. id only pull him on in the last 10 mins of the first half and last 20 of the second half.
The Morris boys would have a great combo together.
The power of Tahu could open up some great opportunity's for Jennings.
Campo is the best defensive half in the game and if it wasnt for ****in farrah taking all the kicks, he would of looked so good in his first origin game not a single missed tackle.
The Forwards would all have heart and care for the team (except Creigh who is only there coz of Origin form)
Noddy for his Kick chase and his ability to find open space.

I'M NOT surprised the knives are out after Wednesday night's Origin loss by the Blues. It's predictable.

We didn't play well and everyone - the coaching staff and players - has to take responsibility for that and the criticism that goes with it.

But the viciousness of some of the attacks has floored me and left me wondering about some of our so-called supporters.

Coach Craig Bellamy has been in the firing line all season.

Now he's copping both barrels. He has somehow become enemy No. 1 in NSW.

Blues captain Kurt Gidley has also been pilloried.

The guy put his heart and soul on the line for NSW on Wednesday night and he, of all people, doesn't deserve the treatment he has received.

Apparently, I have also come under fire from some of our supposed fans.

My crime? I didn't looked gutted enough after the defeat.

I can't say what I'd like to about these people because this is a family newspaper. Suffice to say, they can all go and get lost.

Everyone has an opinion and I respect their right to have one, but the fans who bleat the loudest know the least about the game.

For just about my whole career, I was bagged for being a bad sport. For not being able to handle defeat.

Now people want to have a go at me for not seeming to care enough. It's bull . . it. What did they want me to do, shed tears?

Or maybe start hurling water bottles on the sideline at fulltime?

If only the Blues baggers out there knew half of what goes into preparing for a State of Origin match - the hours and hours of preparing the team and the sacrifices the players make.

We understand the frustration of our fans at Queensland's dominance for the past four years. We feel it more than anyone. But crucifying your own is hardly the answer.

We are all open to constructive criticism but leave me out of the other crap.

The game was there for the taking but the Origin moments, those periods when the game is decided, all belonged to Queensland.

The Billy Slater try. Where was the desperation to get to Johnathan Thurston's kick first before the Maroons fullback?

Darius Boyd's try.

In any company, let alone at Origin level, that was soft defence.

We can talk about the superstars in the opposition - and their influence - but for me, Queensland's domination is built around the grittiness of their players.

We need players who can take the fight to the Maroons for the full 80 minutes and win some of the important moments.

The preparation for Origin I was the best I have been associated with and while winning at Suncorp Stadium is a really tough ask, it is not impossible.

With the right attitude, we showed as much last year.

Why don't you try picking them in the team then...

Tough slog on a disappointing night
Michael Ennis
13:30 AEST May 27 2010

After my debut in State of Origin III last year I knew how tough the game was, but playing in last night's conditions made the physical demands almost ridiculous. I'm obviously bitterly disappointed that we couldn't win, especially in front of that huge sea of blue supporters. The atmosphere when we ran out at ANZ Stadium was just incredible, something I'll never forget and I only wish we could have sent the Blues supporters home happy, despite the wet.

Origins are brutal, and as we saw last night results can come down to the bounce of the ball. I found working in and around the ruck difficult with the wet track, and the leniency shown to blokes lying on tackled players for longer than usual. I like that about Origin though, the fact that the referees generally don't nitpick and allow the game to flow more. The way Origin is played is exactly how the game should be played every weekend. While very happy with my defensive effort last night, I feel as though I could have done a bit more in attack.

Last night proved that the best-laid plans can go out the window with an unexpected injury. Craig Bellamy was planning to introduce Jamal Idris 10 minutes into the second half to replace me. Kurt Gidley, who ended up being our player's player, was going to move into dummy-half, Jarryd Hayne would have gone to fullback and Timana Tahu to the wing. I would have returned after a 15-minute break with fresh legs to finish off the game, but when Matt Cooper couldn't make it back on the field for the second half, I had to strap in for a tough 80 minutes.

We started the match really well, with our intensity levels right up there. We matched it with the Maroons, but one mental lapse before half time proved extremely costly. Billy Slater is a genius and everyone knows he is going to take off on the inside after a kick, usually from Cameron Smith or in this case Johnathan Thurston. He does it every other week for Melbourne. We clocked off for just a second and it allowed Queensland to go into the break 12-8 up.

Bellamy was really positive at the break, and we felt we were right in the game. We went back onto the field with young Idris fired up for his first touch, but again we let ourselves down in defence, allowing them to score the first try through Darren Lockyer. You just can't let a side like Queensland get away from you and I thought we regained some momentum with Anthony Watmough's try and were right back in it at 16-14 down. Then we had a couple of close decisions go against us. One that stands out was a penalty given when Petero Civoniceva dropped the ball in a tackle I was involved in. Not long after that Greg Inglis scored his try, and the Maroons were off the hook again.

The most disappointing part of the game for all of us was the 28 points we conceded. Defensively that is just not acceptable on a wet night. You can't give Queensland that many points and expect to be in the game. On the positive side though, I thought we showed a lot of ticker in the way we kept fighting back. They had a lot of football at our end of the field and yet we managed to keep finding our way down the other end to score.

We looked good through the middle at times with some angled running from blokes like Luke Lewis, Anthony Watmough and Trent Waterhouse, but the problem was we couldn't sustain it for long enough to constantly challenge them. We made crucial mistakes at crucial times, which wasn't that surprising in the conditions, but it was enough to see Queensland home.

There was a lot of disappointment in the shed after the game, but also a lot of fire and hunger in our guts. We all want to head back to our clubs and rip in over the next couple of weeks before getting together again in camp to work towards steeling ourselves for a massive effort in Brisbane. If we can go up there with a good defensive attitude, and keep Queensland to 14 points or less, we'll have a massive chance of winning. Victory in Brisbane will allow us to come back to Sydney for the decider in front of a packed house, where we'll be well placed to put an end to this Queensland run.

These jokers aren't even taking it on board. The fans just must not know what they're talking about. Yeah right, the fans are the ones that laughed at the team selection and have been informed that Bellamy got the team he wanted. That deserves criticism. They deserve criticism for not picking the best team, not picking origin style players, and then getting their arses handed to them. Pathetic. Joey didn't look down because he was probably on an array of uppers.
