Probably the best idea of its sort I've seen Mark. Good work :good:

Easy way to work in the NZ Origin match as well. And it would be a chance for all the non-Origin players to refresh/get over niggles and hence we'd see a better standard of play for the second half of the year.

Yeah that's something I said a while ago, they could do it something like:

Friday night: Origin 1
Wednesday night: Origin 2 (Same turnaround as playing Friday after playing Sunday)
Monday: Origin 3 (Again, same turnaround time as a Friday to Sunday)

Each coach selects a squad not a team, knowing full well that perhaps not all players will play every minute of every game.

For example, Corey Parker and Anthony Watmough have played plenty of origin in the past but didn't make their Game 1 teams. They've now played in game 2. Why couldn't they just have been included in the squad in the first place, and possibly even some players are rested in some games? I mean there's depth there anyway based on some selection decisions being contentious.

I like the idea of this as it's a bit more of a war rather than a series of battles. The games being close together just make it seem more epic.

Given there's currently 26 rounds but each team only plays 24 times, the season doesn't even need to be extended to accommodate this. All teams just get a bye on both origin weekends.

Now the only remaining issue is that for two weekends of the year there'll only be one game of League. I think we can accommodate this in other ways. During that two week period new things can come in. Maybe a 7's knock out comp that non-origin players play in. Maybe the NZ team can play a 'best of the rest' team. Also NYC origin, NSW Cup vs QLD Cup residents match (not origin, the origin concept makes no sense at that level), charity origin legends matches (retired players), womens origin. A big two week mid-season carnival.

Basically you have a half season (12 rounds) then this two week mid season carnival, then the second half of the season (12 rounds).

This is my ideal 'solution', but if that can't be done there's something we can do immediately.

Play origin on Monday nights.

It makes sense because the players in origin camp can't play for their respective teams the week before anyway. If they play on the Monday they can back up much easier. It's a very easy tweak to make that solves some of the disruption.

Origin people will claim it reduces bonding and training camp time for the origin squad but I don't really give a ****. The first two days are apparently piss ups anyway. Good tradition but not at the expense of each club having their best players have to back up possibly only 2 days after one of the biggest matches of their career.

I think that's the way to go.

It would be awesome if they could convince the Poms to come over and play NZ at that time too. The Super League Clubs probably wouldn't go for it, but it could be helpful for them to raise their standard. It would also allow us to scrap the "Anzac" test, which is pretty pointless IMO.

You can't jam 3 Origins into basically a week.

That will never happen.

I personally think they should halt the NRL for 3 weekends and just play the Origin on 3 consecutive Saturday nights.

Players not involved in Origin go back to NSW and QLD Cup. Some of those matches to played on Sunday arvo and televised on Fox Sports.

i think the best thing about origin 2 besides a blues victory was that carney played well and will come back to us full of confidence,
i think he will have a big game and be man of the match and sharks win by 10

That would be the most boring three weeks of winter ever.

What would be the point of pushing whole teams back to NSW Cup? What purpose would that serve? It would just manipulate the NSW cup competiton based on players that aren't even from those clubs... That's a pretty convoluted system and not at all conducive to getting any kind of fair and meaningful competition.

I don't like the 3 origins in one week idea (well 10 days), no offence Mark. I just find it a bit overkill.

I know it's simple, but why not just do what they did with the AUS v NZ/City origin weekend earlier this year. Stop club games for one week.

Have 4 months with at the end of each month, there is a week of and these games can be played on a Friday/Saturday Night. With 16 teams in the comp, there is no real need for a 'bye week'.

I hope that makes sense, too tired/brain dead from all this study I have done in the last few days.

Robbie Farah's mother was rushed to hospital on game night & didn't see him play.

She died today.

Yes, very sad to hear, they showed the minute silence before the game and Benji was a mess, understandably.

My condolences to Robbie and his family.

I am not trying to be insensitive, but this could severely affect our SOO campaign.
Having been down the very sad road of losing your mother I can guarantee it takes a lot more than 2 weeks to be able to focus and get back to the real world ...so to speak.
But in all credit to robbie he must have been aware that his mum was real crook when rushed to hospital and still pumped out a stellar performance
