Just realised I posted this in the wrong thread.

Football Federation Australia is set to announce two new clubs to join the A-League on Thursday, with Macarthur-South West Sydney and Western Melbourne Group understood to have been granted licences.

Sources suggest Western Melbourne Group are set to enter the competition as early as next season after being granted an immediate A-League licence to become the 11th club, while the Macarthur-South West Sydney bid will likely enter a season later to make it a 12-team competition.

Interested to hear the thoughts of those that watch A League more than me (which isn't much).

Three teams in both Melbourne and Sydney? Is that a smart move?

Adding a third team dilutes the bitter rivalries between Sydney FC/WanderLOL’s and the two Melbourne teams. Those rivalries are a big selling point of the league and I think adding a third element to those makes the current rivalries less intense and less special.

Should of been two of Canberra, Wollongong or a second Brisbane team.

Canberra bid is pretty gutted. I don't follow a-league, but would have followed a Canberra team

Average crowd for the Sydney derby?

Train problems and weather kept people away I think.

As for the game. On our worst night. When we're basically handing them the game, they found a way to **** it up and lose. Even better it was Vedran that cost them. Absolutely hilarious.

In saying that, Sydney travel to Perth next week, and if we get a repeat of tonight over there, it’ll be 5-0 Perth. Tratt might start alongside Wilkinson next week.

Highlights of the Mariners vs Glory game today?

• There was a 30 minute delay after a player fell into the goal and broke the ****ing thing.
• A kid with a toy assault rifle scared the absolute **** out of people in the crowd.
• Daniel McBreen pretty much ending his TV career by calling the Mariners “****ing dog****” in a live mic.
• A section of the grandstand was closed after it was discovered an endangered sea bird was nesting there.

I love the A-League.

Daniel McBreen kept his job. Hahahaha! Love it. Kinda relieved really, it’s nice someone didn’t get canned for one mistake, plus he was right in what he said.

Haha exactly, what he said was completely true. He will learn from this though, it's good to give him another go, would seem a bit harsh to sack him for it.

Feel sorry for Arnold. He was going to cop it no matter how we did. Especially from Melbourne we’re there’s a clear agenda against him. People gotta keep in mind that:
1. He was hamstrung at the start of the tournament due to a number of key injuries in Mooy, Arzani, Boyle and Leckie.
2. He unearthed some new stars in Mabil, Ikonomidis and Grant.
3. We were bundled out by the host nation backed by a big crowd and coached by an Italian legend in Zaccheroni.
4. Preparation was also hamstrung by players being released by clubs late.

I don’t think this new formation is working for Sydney FC. Especially with Ninkovic playing on the left, id like to see move to a CAM role behind the two strikers with a narrow diamond midfield with a mandate to play through the middle, which will hopefully spell an end to at least a lot of those pointless crosses Sydney seem to rely on, they don’t work anymore since we don’t have Bobo who could hold the ball up, especially with the poor quality they were dishing up last week. Here’s how I’d line them up against the Nix:

GK: Redmayne
RB: Grant
LB: King (time to give Zullo a spell, he’s been a liability all year, hopefully this gives him the kick up the area he needs. Time to give a young lad a go there)
CB: Wilkinson (c)
CB: Warland
CDM: Retre (like Zullo, Brillante has been a liability)
CM: O’Neill
CM: Caceras
CAM: Ninkovic
ST: Gooch
ST: LaFondre

Alternatively you could have O’Neill as the CDM and bring in DDS as a CM, or even take a punt on Ivanovic in the midfield, that would be a long shot though.

Matt Simon:
Praised as a great ambassador the league one week, getting red carded and telling the ref not to walk away from him “you ****ing dog” the next.
I love that psycho.
